Here is what I think is happening.
The name you gave "buthen" is you profile name, not your characters name.
When you create a new profile, the Red Prince is always the first option you are given.
On that first page you will see your profile name buthen above the Red Prince.
On the attached pic, you will see my profile name Morgana, above the Red Prince. (Your profile name does not show up in the game.)
Where it says " Origin: The Red Prince " Click on the arrow to the right (that I have marked with a red arrow)
and keep clicking until you get to Background Custom: Elf. (see Pic 2)
The default name for a Custom male Elf is Odasto, but you can click on that and change it to buthen there.
Also you can change your appearance, preset, talents, etc
Once you've done all that, just click on Start Game down the bottom.
If you did all that, but just didn't start playing the game, then you need to start until you wake up on the ship and get your first auto save for it to save your character.

Once you start using one of the profiles you have created, you will be able to delete the other.
To delete both, you would need to create a third.
But you will be able to use either of the profiles you have made.
You can play through the game many times, with different characters using the same profile, only your previous quick saves and auto saves will be over written if you do, but not any hard saves.
