cannot survive this Alexandar fight to leave Fort Joy. First attempt failed at lvl 6. Went back and killed a few more Magisters to reach lvl 7. Still no joy even when the voidworm shows up.

Until this point I really enjoyed this game, very immersive and nice graphics but the difficult level for fights even on tactic mode is too hard for me.

Is there any trick with this I just don't see or is this game meant for hardcore tacticians only?
Why do You play tactician then? Play normal mode... Tactician is meant to be hard unless dual lone wolf when it becomes easier. Alexander was no biggy tbh maybe just use the worm to your advantage while killing off archers and mages. As usual gloves of teleportation help big time if You still have problems teleport one of those pesky range fighters down to make it much easier.

You can lower the difficulty, win the fight, and then raise it again when you are done, if you want. I lost that fight the first time, reloaded and then instead of charging back in, I looked at the few remaining uncompleted quests I had--went and completed them all--advanced a level--came back and fought them again. And won! I was either level 7 or 8 by then.

(Partial spoiler)

When the voidworm shows, concentrate all your fire power on Alexander, kill him, then return to the fight and finish the void worm. After that, mop up. Unless you practically run into them, Alexander's crew will all fight the Void worm and ignore you until the voidworm dies--great opportunity to slay Alexander, as I say.

The fight is definitely winnable--nothing wrong with lowering the difficulty level where you need to--imo.

Not playing on Tactician you can't, which OP indicated was their setting. Given that I've seen several of your posts saying that anyone with negative things to say about the game must not know how to play it, you might ought to figure out the basics of the menu system before ragging on others again.
Do you have the teleport skill yet? Use that to take Alexandar away from his guards and then just Zerg him. When the Voidwoken drillworm appears go as far from it as possible so it will go ham on the magisters instead. This is how it worked for me.

Yes, that is why I suggested he lower the difficulty. I was not "ragging"--simply answering his question--good grief...;) And, reading some posts it is more than obvious that some people aren't playing optimally--not trying to upset anyone, simply making a statement. Sorry if I'm not having these problems--to me, saying "this game stinks" isn't of very much value as far as I can see...;)

Thanks for all the tips: I finally made it in normal/classic mode with lvl 7 by your advice

Congrats! It's fun--winning one of these, eh?...;)
Chapter Three fight! I can't do it on Explorer--Cloaked figure kills evceryone in one move.
Can the fight be avoided?
but it was easy on Classic, Figure didn't jump and Malady threw her spell.
