I don't want to get into trouble for this post, I do this with the best intentions.

Back when Rise of the Elves Gold was announced and could be ordered from Strategy First, they had an offer with included an "Rise of the Elves Gold Upgrade" for new and former buyers of the "Disciples II Gold". I think it was even possible to buy this upgrade for 0$ without buying any other Disciples II edition.

So here it is, just a 3 MB installer that adds the new custom maps.

I just want to say thanks for this, it works perfectly with the GOG edition (and three years later at that.)

Does this patch allows to play GotL/SoD mini-campaigns?
Must be STICKY TREAD.

Gold Upgrade change main menu version number, but isnt patched game version (exe files in gog already 3.01).

GOG.com not always be a best versions of any games. Steam version of D2 (also old Amazon and SF-web site) have all content from all reteil release (exept Concept Art Multimedia Portfolio etc., all of them include ONLY in RETAIL D2 Gold + RotE Gold also). Best way -- buy Steam D2 Gold release, buy GOG version and copy to Steam 6 EXE files (3 for both games) and d2_gold_manual.pdf (previosly available as all Disciples manuals on SF files archive web site, now SF redirect to Steam Publisher Strategy First catalog).
Steam version packed in GCF-->VPK Valves archive in additional vpks ingame folder (with custom --non compatible with other games in MP -- 2.01\3.0 .exes + steamclient.dll DRM) -- must be extracted with Nem's Tools GCFScape utility.

Galleans Return 16 (+\-) aditional maps include only in GR in all releases. Must be copy to RotE, also with 12lvl heroes.

PS. One of 3 maps (2nd) from The Alliance Crusade can be playable as SKIRMISH map, but not be rebalanced and have scenario minor bugs for other races.

PS2. Both Elves campaing not direct follow GR plot. Maybe 2nd campaign is a prequel to 1st (you alliade with Empire and Clans).
BUMP!
GOG must update RotE to 3.01 (game menu say it 3.0 even most files in root says about 3.01) and include RotE Gold Upgrade installation (or installed files for Galaxy).
At least, stick this thread and make a Support article for Rise of the Elves support page.

I got the Steam version for only 0.85$ (mid week sale).

The file and product version of the GOG is 2003.12.11.1. (Disciples II 3.01)
The file and product version of the Steam is 2003.11.3.1. (Disciples II 3.0)

The Main Menu Screen in GOG is 3.0
The Main Menu Screen in Steam is 3.01

AI Very Hard in Steam are way more aggressive than in GOG based on my experience IMO.

The 3.01 version says Gallean's Boon now works as originally intended as what the README file says in the Steam version.

I played the Elven Alliance campaign in both versions and the effect of the spell Gallean's Boon is different.
In GOG it adds 50HP while in Steam it adds 50% of the unit's Max HP (The spell's description does not state 50% just 50, no percentage)

In Steam version I had to use the Recovery spell twice to heal my units!.

GOG ROTE is already patched to 3.01 while Steam is NOT though it has the ROTE Gold content which GOG lacks.

GOG build GOG version, but Steam - by Strategy First themselves... Until Valve come with they SteamPipe update.
Any Steam version(*) - full package, but always have custom DRM exe. And that exe not patched.

* Old Steam version use GCF steam archives and do not have directory (only temporary for each steam account with exe\dll and video extracted and replaced each run from steam library). Current GCF->VPK format be almost same... only for containing files. That format not allow custom content.

In GOG seem that patched only some files.
Better way - buy only Steam or Steam+GOG versions. Or Amazon US (for US\CA only)... Hmm GamersGate have drm-free labeled Dark Prophecy - not sure what it is.
Amazon, Stardock, old SF site or maybe some more - seems that any digital Gold edition is fully packed and do not have DRM (except downloader like Stardock Impulse). And only GOG and Steam have troubles.

Steam sucks offering a game that is not patched to latest version.

Buy both version and combine. Both Steam\GOG version not a Gold (if "out of the box").

drm-free exe from GOG useful for Steam, Export folders for GOG:
First Export archive - Dark Prophecy version of Export folder.
2nd Export 7z - Gallean Return export folder with compatible maps and leaders
3d Export - RotE Export folder with compatible maps (from GR) and leaders.

Better way install GOG ROTE version and install Rise of the Elves Gold Expansion Pack (updates the Menu screen to 3.01 and switches the Hovel/Lodge Elven buildings to Lodge/Hovel).
What exactly files must be updated? GOG already have patched exe (and dat file), Gold Upgrade change only menu number file, all other changes for GOG version - "create files in Export directory". I check it in INSTALL.log. Even readme file not be updated (but must be changed, as you can see from Steam\other gold digital edition).

Isnt better use drm-free exe copied to Steam version? Gold upgrade do not have all gold content from retail, that must be included in digital Gold version. That variant still missed something. GOG missed too much.

The 'Rise of the Elves Gold Expansion Pack' also overwrites 4 files in the 'Globals' and 2 files in the 'Interf' folder.

What confuses me is in Steam it says 3.01 version but the Gallean's Boon spell does not work as originally intended (adds 50% of unit's HP instead of 50HP) and the Elven tech tree is Lodge/Hovel.

In GOG the Gallean's Boon spell is fine (adds 50HP to unit) and the Elven tech tree is Hovel/Lodge and if you install the 'Rise of the Elves Gold Expansion pack' the tech tree is now switched to Lodge/Hovel and the Main Menu screen is updated to 3.01.

Is there anyone who got the 4CD (Gold) or 2CD (ROTE) Disciples II (3.01 version) confirm this?

Which one is 3.01 the Lodge/Hovel or Hovel/Lodge tech tree?

Oh, maybe i must do reinstall RotE GoG + Gold upgrade and check again.
Steam do not have patched exe, you know. I think it a most important file for 3.01 update.

Need original NA retail 2 CD RotE version, build 3.0. Then install Gold and check if all 3 exe files are changed, same as .dat and readme files. Then install 3.01 patch: would it be installed and if yes - what files?
Anyway, GOG missed GR retail bonus content (12 leaders and 1 scenario + multimedia_portfolio.exe and more artworks).
* Steam do not have any artworks for Dis2, but have 2 RAD .exe files in Disciples 1 with preview artworks for Disciples 2.

Try this install the Original Retail ROTE 3.0 and install the ROTE Gold Upgrade and check if it is the same as Steam.
