just wondering if any one else has had a problem with the game flickering between itself and a black screen, it goes form one to the oter really quickly almost constantly, so if anyone has any ideas as to why.
BTW 22" screen latest catalyst drivers, all seems to work well bar that

if that is vertical refresh I tried it with off and highest quality, if that is not it I cant find it, but now i played with that, the game is all black barring a litle play window in the middle

Yea its vertical sync, Is it like the game is fully shown but just with a large black border around it or something different?

Try to run the game on a single CPU core and also set it to run in windows XP mode with admin permission. I think the black border is probably cause by the resolution you run it at, after a point it just has a black border around it. Lower the resolution a bit in the games options and see if that shrinks the border or makes it go away all together.
I did all options bar the single core as I could not figure out how to use that option, but none of the other options worked, the black border is random sometimes it is full screen others its not. any way I ran the windows troubleshoot this time because the game crashed and the solution give was an incompatible software.

Update from your post I started playing with the properties i selected run in compatability mode XP SP3, i tagged run in 640x480 and also tagged disable desktop composition, all these were under the properties then compatability tab. this in windows 7.
so victory, and thank you for your help. solution found.

Don't forget to mark Ralackk's post as a solution. ;)
Sorry, this problem is not solved. No solution in this discussion doesn't work for me. On my full hd display I can play it only in small 640x480 window with big ugly black bar. The same on my laptop, on my secondary display and on my wifes computer. No solution on this page works for me.
I have Win7 64 bit. Display Philips 22 full hd. Intel Dual Core, 4 GB Ram. Graphic card ATI Radeon 4330.
I had even more interesting problem -- everything worked fine for me and then I decided to play with gogstart. So I changed "640 480" on it's cmdline to "1280 1024" -- I ended up with black screen(1280x1024) that had 640x480 area in the center where discpiles were doing it's drawing. After I reverted my change -- problem refused to go away. Search n google was essentially useless.
I have discovered that if I switch my display to different refresh rate -- it started working again. So obviously here was some kind of data in registry that was telling system how to behave if I switch from my current mode to 640x480. Could not find it in the registry. So I did this:
- open NVIDIA Control Panel and got to "Change resolution"
- click "Customize..."
- create 640x480 mode for all three cases (32bit, 16bit and 8 bit)

That is it! It seems that doing so somehow overrides (or deletes) settings that caused black borders.
so the problem I'm having is that it only displays in a 680x400 window with a black border covering the rest of the screen, and my laptop is bigger than that, so is there anyway to extend that screen? just changing it under the shortcut options doesn't do anything...
