Hello!

I've been loving this game after buying it because of the great reviews. I was having trouble last night tracking down a dude for a quest; I was told to kill someone on a level in the dungeon but I couldn't find them. The quest said something like "last known location: level 3". I ran around for ages trying to find him but couldn't and I was pretty sure I had explored all the level.

Can people for quests move to other levels? Is it a bug? Is it possible he was hiding behind a secret wall? This was on the second town, so I've not played long and still learning. It is the only quest I have left for this town. I'd appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Farran

He's likely behind a secret wall. Check out this guide, written by Steve Hornback, one of the owners of the game's dev studio -- though there's not a lot of deep info that you couldn't get just from playing the game yourself for a while, the section called "I'm Stuck! (Level Solving) - What to try if you get stuck while playing Din's Curse" should help. Since the levels and quests are all randomly generated, that's about all I can think to tell you. If all else fails, abandon the town; that Steam guide has a lot of things to try first, though. (For what it's worth, I've never had to do that.)

Anyway, good luck, and remember to post how this resolves!

Thanks for the reply. I had a go on the weekend and found him pretty quickly; he was just running around the level and I bumped into him. In your link to the dev's info it mentioned logging out and back in to to help progress game events, I wonder if that is what happened. I originally spent ages running around in a constant circle to try to track him down but it was taking a ludicrous amount of time. After logging back in I had no trouble finding him.

Although this game isn't polished particularly well, it does have something about it. Sometimes it is really easy and sometimes it is really hard - but that is just like life!

Well, glad the problem was resolved, however it happened! : )
Just wait until you get some sort of "find this person in the dungeon" quest, and actually make it to the level in question, only to have the NPC die fending off monsters somewhere within your hearing in an area you've not yet explored. (The really funny part is when you then encounter that character's ghost, who tasks you with avenging their death!)
Is it forum necromancy if the thread is still on the first page? :)

I just wanted to add, that I've had quest bosses/characters that I can't find until I reload. I think they get stuck outside a wall or something. One was even in multiplayer, we took turns searching for an hour before we saved and came back later, then the boss appeared right by the level gate.

In a forum as infrequently visited as this games, (almost) any activity is good activity. ; )
