Ever since the 1940's, Hitler has been the quintessential "bad guy" persona for most of the world...;) That's probably why it seems that way to you...He's sort of the "madman of all madmen" if you know what I mean...

His German accent is the real spoiler. If you encounter a German guy in a game, they're going to betray you.

Only exception is Gabriel Knight.

Oh man, don't play any of the Indiana Jones games...
I don't remember if they actually mentioned Brinks' nationality in-game, or do we assume because of his accent/name?

If it's any consolation, the crystals are supposed to bring back to life someone (or even something) different than the person who died. So the German guy wasn't really evil. ;)
