There is a bug in the ScummVM interpreter for The Dig.

When you finally get to the Tomb spire, you *MUST* activate the light bridge before you leave the spire.

If you don't, later in the game you will be unable to call the tram. If you do not have the light bridge active, you will never be able to get to the tomb spire again.

Just a warning for you, so you don't get to a stuck game.

It would be nice if you could file a bug report in the ScummVM bug tracker. Particularly if you still have a savegame that you can attach, to make it easier to reproduce.

Sure that is a bug, or just a part of the game? Lots of older games like this don't baby the player--make a mistake in one section it may make the game unplayable later on--or result in your early demise. That's why "save often" was learned so well by most of the gamers of that generation...;)

But it does lead me to ask, if you are at the spire and don't activate the bridge, how can you leave it? Yes, that would surely qualify as a bug...

No, I don't know. I don't think I ever saw a proper bug report and savegame, either, but I haven't looked recently.

Nuts. Because I want to buy The Dig again. I had it on CD back in the day, and I also have some very fond memories of that time that goes along.

Well, I've played through The Dig in ScummVM in the past (a couple of years ago), and I didn't notice any game-breaking problems. I've been told that the music doesn't work quite as well as it should, but I don't know any details about that.

I have seen a couple of bug reports that turned out to not be bugs at all though, e.g. not realizing that a room was wider than it was (so a "missing" object wasn't missing at all), or following an incomplete walkthrough so that a certain event never triggered.

Sounds comforting enough. I'll give it a shot, it's not super expensive a la Deus Ex Mankind Divided that turned out to suck hard.

I just played The Dig a few months ago using SCUMMVM and I didn't encounter any bugs either. (I was using the Steam version, but I don't think that would make a difference).

It appears to be working fine here as well. I absolutely love this game. Especially the music., I'm a sucker for ambient.
