teceem: "legal" is nor universal nor absolute. Hence the word "gray".

Lord_Casque_Noir: Legality depends of your country. But as more and more countries adopt international agreements about copyright, you have more chance to become a pirate by downloading on abandonware websites. But perhaps, you can try north korea... Sorry internet is... limited in this country.
Ok, let's stay in the "legal context". Does legal mean "a law alows it", and illegal "a law prohibits it"?
If so, what if there is no relevant law? What if there is a law but it can't be applied?
I didn't just invent "grey area"', it's an actual thing.

Izorion: As of today Blizzard's site actually states "Diablo is available for purchase at GoG.com" on the Diablo store page.

Hold on, Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne are both on that page. Did it go free?

I'm not sure. I think it might just be the installers that are free there. Diablo II and its addon needs your original codes to install from that link. It might be the same for Warcraft not sure, as i've never installed them.

Linny: Not sure where you are making up this info from but Diablo 1 is definitely not available for download anywhere.

Hence why it says "first online copy available" for this download.
It's like the reviews I see giving it 1-2 stars acting like this is a remaster and not just Diablo 1 made to work on new systems. Some people like to spread misinformation or have literally no clue what they are talking about.

Well for Diablo 2 I had to provide CD keys to be able to get to the installers, and the classic Starcraft did get released free when the remastered version was being released. I don't recall seeing WC3 on that page before, and I know it got pulled from the Battle.net store when they announced the WC3 Reforged remaster.

Well you know what they say theres only one way to know for sure. :P

The link gives you a small 2-3 MB installer. It runs, asks for an install location and then starts downloading the game. So far so good.

EDIT: Ah, not so good after all, and that's a pretty poor way of Blizzard doing what they've done.
So, you get the 2-3 MB installer and run it and it proceeds to download and install the game. Once you've done that you then get asked for your CD key or to log in with your Battle.net account on which you've pre-purchased the Reforged remaster.

So, I cannot play it even though I spent the time downloading it. Why didn't they ask for the CD key / account first, then allow you to download, like they did with Diablo 2?

chandra: That.
Even though they're freeware I hope you guys can bring Lost Vikings 1 and 2 (as freebies). :)

https://www.gog.com/wishlist/games#search=vikings&order=votes_total

(maybe they could be part of a "buy Diablo, get these added to your account for free" deal like Bethesda has here.)

Diablo 1 demo was always free. But it was a limited vanilla version. Hard to use on actual PCs. CDs of demo and original are still available outside of Blizzard. Be careful to check that you get a original and that you are in legal waters.

Diablo 2 version could be activated with Blizzard using the key. Thus you received a digital version by having your old CD key and enter it to an existing Blizzard account. As far as I know this one is using the old Battlenet as well.

Diablo 3 has a Diablo 3 bound small remake (not complete) of Diablo 1 in January (only during that month) for 3 years now. Check the wikis on how to do this next year - there is full descriptions of how and what.

Blizzard does several Diablo related development now. Releasing Diablo 1 on GOG seems to indicate for me that a full remake of Diablo 1 might not be done right now.
I will not even try to think of WHAT might be worked on in reality.

It's $10 for the grand daddy of all of the ARPG's it supports GOG and allows them to keep doing what they are doing... just buy it and enjoy the amazing DX mode and hard work they put into it.

Contergen: Why would anyone pay 10 dollars for this when the exact same thing is available on Blizzard's site for free.
I could see paying for this if it actually ran on an older system, but the Win7+ requirement for a game this old is quite literally insane.
I thought the same but it needs the CD-key, what I downloaded and plays well is Starcraft I, that one is for free there right now!
