Anyone notice that you get higher level loot WAAAAY earlier than the original?

Examples:
-I got a long sword at character level 3ish, thats insane, dont remember ever seeing/using a longsword till catacombs.
- also saw ringmail at Griswald's way before the catacombs. You never saw this till almost at the end of the catacombs, wth is the point of arcane's valor quest if you get good armor earlier?
-Broadsword before catacombs that Never happened till the caves-ish around when you get Girswald's Edge.
-Also magic mods on items are happening waaay early too. Griswald has +60% armor items before you get to catacombs, this happend in the caves maybe or later catacombs originally.
-Greataxe obtaied in first level of catacombs, wtf? You never saw those till you got to hell, this is messed up.

If I can get all this sick stuff early, WTH is the point of quests like the arcane's valor? The original game gave you shit armor till that point, it was so exciting and engaging that you had to always treading lightly in the catacombs, holding on, wish to get that quest or make it to the caves when you started seeing breast plate and splint armor.

The loot changes makes the games original design pointless. It also makes the game waaaay too easy, to the point of almost not being fun. If there's not risk of dieing to the Butcher or the charger doods on the Chamber of Bone quest, what's the point of playing the game? Please, ftlog, change it back.

Also the starting % hit chance on worrior is 80 rather than ~60 in the original. I see how this could be helpful to not have to swing as much but man, easy games are so boring.

It seems like some dev with an affinity for cheat codes (blah) got a little happy in the source code. Please don't mess with a classic game like this. Put it back the way it was.

Which exact version of the game are you playing? Is it with or without Hellfire?

I don't think GoG changed anything to the game's balance… but if you're playing the Hellfire version instead of Diablo "Classic" that might explain some differences. Or maybe you just got lucky with RNG.
Hello handaxe833,

I know your intention wasn't to make a complete fool of yourself, but here we are. The GOG version of this game as far as the integrity of the original game is completely intact. There are absolutely NO differences between this version and the original version of the game. GOG simply packaged the game in a way that makes it far more accessible to players and makes it compatible with modern operating systems. I've played both versions extensively, as well as worked with the Devilution (binary exact source code replication of 1.09 Diablo) as well as DevilutionX). I've created a mod of the original game, as well as contributed to the DevilutionX project. We can both verify that your experience is completely valid as original Diablo 1 gameplay by referencing Jarulf's Guide, which is available in many places online. Please do your research in the future before going on a full blown rant, showing how you know absolutely nothing about this game.
"Also the starting % hit chance on worrior is 80 rather than ~60 in the original. But yeah, so sorry your memory is bad

This is probably one of those cases where new people claim they've played the original then come to the forums and complain but haven't actually played the original.

It's been happening on Steam forums as well. They're terminally ignorant or victims of corporate entrainment.
