Hello,

can i rename Charakters? I accidentally created two Characters with the same name on my Desktop PC and Laptop and after copying my Laptop Save to the PC, it seems to confuse the Game and i can't load my save from the Laptop.

In the Load Screen there are two Charakters with the same name, and the correct classes, but both of them load the original save from my PC.

I opened the savefiles with NPP, the charactername can be found there, but editing doesnt help.
If the character name you wan't isn't being used already as someone's account on Battle.net, you can create that account and log in with your character. It will then (probably) tell you about your character being about to be renamed and ask for confirmation (see attachment).

Note : seems like it might not ask for any confirmation if you're making a new account and not reusing an existing one.

If i get what you mean, this doesn't seem to work, as the Diablo savegames seem to be incompatible to the Diablo (Classic) Savegames.
Since you're playing the GOG Diablo DX, you have an additional step of copying your characters to the Diablo folder, not the Diablo/DX folder.
GOG Diablo DX and GOG Diablo Classic are an identical game and saves can be moved freely between them.
Log into battle.net with one of the characters.... click the “create new account” option...Gour character will be renamed to match your new account.

How?
If i copy my dx Character to the Diablo Folder as a single.sv it appears in the SinglePlayer Selection Screen but that does not help me with my issue obviously. If i rename the save to a multi.sv than the Character does not appear in the MultiPlayer CharacterSelection Screen
Yeah, you cannot simply rename filenames, you need to convert them with a tool.

That sounds contradictory to me.
Characters of a given type are compatible. You can move your Single Player character from classic to DX and back, as a Single Player character. Likewise, you can move your Multiplayer character from classic to DX and back, as an MP character. You cannot make a Single Player character into a Multiplayer character without using external hacks. Your original post did not state that the affected characters are SP characters (though perhaps the reference to a "Load Screen" could be read that way; I read it as the multiplayer choose-a-character dialog).

I don't know of any way to fix this for SP, other than to use a cheat tool to rename one of the characters while in a game. You could work around the problem by never having both character files in the game's save directory at the same time, so that it cannot see both and get confused.
Correct, i forgot to mention the SP
Thank you, i wonder why i made SP Characters in the first place though
