I have the same problem - can someone help?
Same for me, I just bought diablo and i get the same error screen only with updated graphic and hellfire. Diablo classic works. i tried reinstall direct x but it does not work. Anyone can help please?
I got the same issue. Did anyone figure out what needs to be done?
I have the same issue... (I hope somebody will/can fix this issue...)

EDIT:
My solution: You have to set "Antialiasing" to "Set by application (Default)" and it works for me. (So I CAN'T use MSAA 8x)

Antialiasing won't do anything anyway, it's a 2D game.
Set compatability mode to "Windows 95" works like a dream.

Yeah, the same here, tried to change settings but failed. can only play Diablo classic, but not workable when trying high resolution ones.

Right now, installing Direct X and Runtime somthing, a solution found on net, but not sure if it will work.

Display mode- 3440x1440 60hz
aspect- disabled
vertical sync- default
presentation- fullscreen
scaling- default
gamma- 1.0 (default)
anisotroopic- enabed - af 16x
antialiasing- msaa 8x

I used this setting (the display mode was different though), and it solved problem! you people can give this a try.
