sheng_luwei: Thanks, but that's all greek to me.
Don't worry about it, we will have it solved soon and you can then just translate it in Poedit.

sheng_luwei: However, somehow I might have accomplished to upload the progress I've made so far, but will not continue to dig deeper into problems like inflections or string contexts because GitHub makes me really mad.
Yep, just merged your changes. Feel free to submit any further work anyway you like. GitHub Pull Request are preferred as they will give you proper credit for your work, but if that isn't important for you we can upload the file for you.
Sometimes I don't have much patience, so thanks for your understanding.
I think I made a new pull request with an update on the translation.
It's nearly finished, but I'm still sure that there are lines missing. For example, there is no "Lachdanan" or "El Chupacabras".
Some lines are a mystery to me, for example "Enable verbose logging" - what does it mean?
The multiple-context-strings-problem is something I can solve in 2 minutes with a hex editor, if that's what you would like to go for.

Yep, just saw it :+1:

They are both proper names and so have not been marked for translation.

This is mostly for debugging, it makes the program output more details about what is happening in to the terminal.

it doesn't really apply in this context :) The application it self isn't build with a specific language, instead it loads the selected language in to memory from a file. It lets us detect the system language and set it as the default on first start up, and it can be changed while the game is running. Oh and we do not have to hex edit each of the 12 ports for each test build :)
Ok, my idea was based on the wrong assumption that there are two name pointers for only one string, just like in normal Diablo or Hellfire. I just learned that is not the case in devilutionx, so obviously no hexediting necessary.

No worries :)

I merged your translation update, 97% :D

You might want to grab the latest template and update the translation file with it (can be done in Poedit).

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/diasurgical/devilutionX/master/Translations/devilutionx.pot

Doing so will enable you to also translate the character sheet now :)

The accented font is now part of the latest test builds so you can properly test the translations in game. If you need any help in setting it up you can join our Discord :)
The main panel can now also be translated via Poedit:

I have now split up all monster and spell names so that they appear separate from other texts in Poedit. Please not that we updated de.po on our end so you should update your copy to avoid conflicts between the changes.

I appreciate the effort and sorry if it sounds harsh but now the file is completely messed up, everything is marked as "needs revision" because lines do not match each other anymore.

Wouldn't it be easier to just split up only these three lines:
1) Blood Stone (item / monster)
2) Lightning (prefix / spell)
3) Hidden (shrine / monster)
and perhaps 4) Crimson (21%-30% fire res / 31%-40% fire res).
5) Guardian (spell / monster) isn't necessary to split up.

That would honestly be totally sufficient for the German translation.

No worries. Things like spells, items and monsters are grouped so moving them out of the global category will move all of them. I can see how from your perspective it might seams more complicated.

I didn't remove the "needs revision" marking as it's a bit of work for me to do so for 16 languages, and the rules aren't the same, so it's best to let the translators make sure that things where updated correct. Hopefully it's not to much work to check the names :)
The problem is that most of the translations were replaced by nonsense in those new groups. Fortunately I had a backup of the old translation file and could transfer from there.

I'm wondering what is "Trying to drop a floor item?"? No idea what a floor item is and how to drop it.

Only a couple of boss names missing yet, maybe it's finished this week if I find the time, and then it probably needs some ingame testing and polishing as well.

Splitting up "crimson" into two prefixes, what do you think?

This is an error that can occur if someone sends and invalid network message.

Awesome! Feel free to submit it gradually as you work on it.

I don't think that what is intended with it.

Still doesn't make any sense to me (semantically). :-)
Probably just going to write something similar nonsensical as translation then. :-)

Sounds fine and it's a pretty nonsensical situation and game breaking if it happens.
Hi, tried to provide an update of the de.po file via github last thursday, but apparently I did something wrong, because the file wasn't updated, instead now I get lots of automatic E-Mails everyday telling me about all the activities not really related to the translation. Any idea what's wrong?
