There are at least 2, possibly 3 soundtracks for Deus Ex - the original IT/mod music from the PC version, the orchestrated PlayStation 2 soundtrack and the OST CD release that might be slightly different from the PS2 soundtrack (the version of the title music is basically the same in the OST and PS2 versions though). I do already own 3 copies of Deus Ex, and the mod music is easily converted to mp3, but if this release includes the fantastic PS2 rendition of the music (or the CD music, if that includes most of the PS2 soundtrack), I'll happily purchase a fourth copy.

The GOG soundtrack is not the IGM converted to MP3. It's a lot more active and vibrant; definitely well produced.

The OST is worse than the in-game music. Just open the UMX files with foobar (with foo_dumb) or Winamp and listen there.

Opinions. People have them.
is the Soundtrack music actually used in the game of the year edition, or is still the "old music" used in the game?

The "old music" is in-game as usual.

If it is indeed the PS2 soundtrack, which it sounds like by shadearg's description, it's got highs and lows - being entirely pre-recorded instead of a loop based mod file like the original music, it isn't as dynamic as it is when you're playing the game on PC, but the non-synthesizer stuff (the bass line and guitars at Lebedev's airfield, the strings in the theme song and the flute heavy Ocean lab music) sounds way, way better on the PS2 as it's played with real instruments instead of short, looped poor quality samples.
I put together a rip of the ingame soundtrack, 74 tracks, converted after separating each track (with jumps removed) into its own .IT module prior to conversion so they play & loop correctly. Can upload it somewhere if anyone else is interested in it.

Interesting, just compared the versions of the music, and I guess the music available for download is from the GOTY soundtrack CD. It's neither the original PC in-game music, nor the remastered and orchestrated PS2 in-game music. Seems to use the same arrangements as the PS2 music, but with sampled instruments (like the PC soundtrack, though with higher quality, probably because space wasn't an issue) instead of a full orchestra. It's probably recorded straight off the rompler synthesizers rather than converted to mod samples.

I know it's only been 5 years since you posted this, but I would definitely be interested!
