Hi,

I'm having strange problem with saving. First two to six saves might work correctly, but after that the game just starts to copy the previous save over and over. So I might get correctly working saves from 1 to 4 maybe, and then every time I save after that it just creates a copy of save 4.

My OS is 64-bit Windows 7. If this could be caused by mods, I'm using dxEnhanced, NewVision and HDTP.

Thanks!

Obligatory Vista/7 question: Did you install to Program Files? If you did, Vista/7's User Account Control "feature" causes problems with programs that store data beyond the program itself there. The solutions I know of are...

Turn off User Account Control
Install to a different location

boct1584: Obligatory Vista/7 question: Did you install to Program Files?
I didn't. All my GOG-games are installed to D:\Games\GOG.com\, so UAC should not be a problem. But I just realised that I haven't tried to launch the game with admin rights, since everything seemed to work correctly without. Until this at least.
I think it's an issue with the New Vision mod. I own the retail version of the game patched to the latest version, but when I used the New Vision mod/ and/or related launcher, I had the very same issues with save games, and like yourself, I did not have the game installed in Program Files nor did I have UAC enabled.

After removing the mod, I reinstalled and used the Deus Ex Fixer tool http://kentie.net/article/dxguide/dxfix.zip in order to fix the speed issues of my retail version. After running the game, the save issue was resolved therefore I'm attributing the problem to either New Vision or the Launcher. There was also an issue with a sticky icon which kept the pistol selected until it was thrown away so I decided to play without the mod.

I hope that may help you.
Not sure if this will help but if you've played the game before you might still have old saves on your HD from a previous run-through. IF that's the case you might be encountering Ye Olde, '1000 saves problem.' If so here's how to fix it...

http://forums.eidosgames.com/showthread.php?t=41773

Generally when I'm done with a run-through I'll nuke the saved games so I can save often next time and prevent the problem the above link tells players how to fix.
I think I'm having the same problem as the OP. Every quicksave I do becomes a previous quicksave and if I try to save the game from the save menu it gets displayed as a quicksave. This means all of my saves are stuck at one point in the game and the game essentially becomes Ironman ie. unplayable for me. Does any kind soul have a solution to this that doesn't involve getting rid of NV. Cheers!

Bleck. Haven't heard of this issue before outside the above '1000 saves problem.' Hate to suggest this but maybe try deleting all but the /current folder under save in your Deus Ex directory, start a new game and ONLY save from the menu.

In all the time I've played Deus Ex this issue hasn't popped up for me and the save menu is the ONLY way I save.

Sorry if my suggestion seems a P..I.T.A. I know it is but who knows? It might work or someone will post a better solution. Would hate to see someone rooked out of being able to play this great game.

I had a similar problem with the quicksave, using Kentie's Launcher, Enhanced 1.3, Shifter 1.8.4, and New Vision with the v1.000001 hotfix. I ticked all the boxes in the "Data Directories" menu, and that seems to have solved it.

Thanks very much for the replies.
I'm still none the wiser on what's going on but I'm thinking since it doesn't seem to be affecting other folks then it must be me doing something wrong.
I'm using Kentie's launcher, enhanced, shifter, HDTP and NV installed using the augmentation guide on this forum. I haven't installed into the Programs directory but on a separate hard drive. UAC off and I have admin rights.
To boct1584 - I have all the boxes in the data directories ticked and I have deleted my saves but still the same bug occurs. BTW my save folder is in My Documents. The save folder in DX folder is empty.
It's a shame as I have played DX years ago and loved it and really wanted to go through it again with sharper graphics. If anyone knows what could be going on let me know pls. Cheers!
EDIT: I've attached an image of my saves to show what's happening

sadis: Hi,

1) I do not use ANY mods.
2) In order to save the game I have to create a new save. I am unable to overwrite save files.
3) I am unable to delete save files while playing the game under the Save and Load menus. When I choose to delete a save file and click delete the save with that name, call it Save X, is no longer there. However, as soon as I open the Save or Load menu again Save X is still there.
4) When I look in the Save folders (whatever your GoG folder path is\Deus Ex GOTY\Saves) there are three folders: Current, Save0001 and Save 0002. This shows that I appear to have 2 or possibly 3 saves, however I have to use the method described in 2) so I actually have 5 or 6 save files. On top of this, the files in Current and Save0001 are exactly the same. Save0002 is different only insofar as the size of one of the files, being 7,860KB instead of 7,861KB.

When it comes down to brass tacks I have no idea where my save files actually are, I am unable to delete or overwrite saves in game, and I can only save the game by creating a brand new save file each time I want to save the game. It would be great if someone from GoG could look into or comment on this issue because I am using a non-modified version and having what may be related issues to the OP's save issues.

Update #1

Boct's response here (http://www.gog.com/forum/deus_ex_series/where_are_the_dx1_saves_located) was a big help for me and the thread can easily be found by looking in the Support section for Deus EX GOTY. Unfortunately, there are further problems.

Related to my issue with being unable to overwrite saves, I have six folders: Current and Save0001-0005. Current has 4 saves, the same as Save0005. However, Save0001 is empty; Save0002 has 1 save file; Save0003 has 2 save files, the same one as Save0002 and another file; Save0004 has 2 save files, the same as the unique file in Save0003 and another file; Save0005 ultimately contains all of the aforementioned files along with a unique file.

I have absolutely no idea why there are so many back-ups, especially when attempting to overwrite and delete files does nothing. Further, I have no idea why I have save folders in the path described before Update #1 if the save files are actually tucked away in one of the AppData folders.

I'm having a similar problem with saves. I recently installed GOG Deus Ex GOTY and find that I am unable to SAVE even one. I have WIN7, 3 terabytes of space, running game with Admin rights and in a "Games" folder outside of Programs that I created exclusively for my games. I have tried running the game in other modes and get the same problem - when I try to make a SAVE, I get a message informing me that I need at least 100 MB of free space (as noted I have terabytes of free space) and that I need to free up some space by deleting some saved games (I have been unable to save even one).

Anyone have any ideas as to how to resolve this? The game seems to run OK otherwise.
I think that might be an issue with Deus Ex and big hard drives, but I'm not sure. Maybe pick up Kentie's Launcher and see if that has the same problem?
Hi, I was playing deus ex goty edition and all my save files are corrupted, why this happened, also when I save it gets corrupted too
