I'm not sure if other people have run into the same problems installing the Unified Texture Pack as I ran into with the GOG version (which if you have not checked out the texture pack, I HIGHLY recommend it), but if you have then here is the solution.

The Problem: during installation of the tex pack, the ibd_patcher will not be able to find the game path and will produce an error message. The reason this happens is the GOG version of the game adds a "\" to the end of the install path in the registry (which shouldn't be a problem but it is with the tex pack). This problem may not occur on all systems, but I have encountered it on Win7 x64 and WinXP x86, so I'm assuming this will happen on all GOG version installs.

The Solution: just a warning, this involves very minimal registry editing, so if you don't know much about registry editing then you may want to google it to learn or just pass. Incorrectly editing your registry can cause SERIOUS problems to your pc, however this edit is very simple.

1) open regedit (google if you don't know)

2) navigate to the following folder:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Ion Storm\Deus Ex - Invisible War
(note, this is the path for x64 Win7, 32 bit systems should look like this: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\\Ion Storm\Deus Ex - Invisible War)

3) open ION_ROOT_PC and remove the last "\" so it's walue is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Deus Ex - Invisible War
(this may not be your exact path, but the important part is that it doesn't end with a "\")

4) exit the registry, you should be set now

Before proceeding with the text pack install, make sure you've run the game at least once, maybe even start a game and save to be sure (most likely don't need that last part).

Enjoy the tex pack, it helps the game quite a bit since it already had great lighting and shadows but really blurry textures.

Thanks, that should really be stickied.
The mod's homepage has some comparison pics, but it's down now because it exceeded the bandwidth.

Google search showed some mirrors at and [url=http://www.ausgamers.com/files/details/html/32339]ausgamers.
This texture pack is a must for IW fans.
Makes everything much cleaner looking.
The author's site is down, but the gamefront link still works fine.
Bumping this so others will see it since the game is part of a major sale today.

And I can't recommend this guy's texture packs enough. He also did one for Thief 3 and It. Is. Amazing. It just sort of breathes new life into an old game despite changing no actual part of how the game looks or plays other than its textures.

EDIT: Before anyone else finds out the hard way and wonders why the heck the texture pack is leaving the game missing textures, you apparently have to select the "UK (English)" option. I just selected US out of habit since all my games have been US releases obviously, but GoG is apparently using the UK release.

THANK YOU! I've been messing around for over an hour wondering why my textures weren't appearing properly and then stumbled onto your post.

Great tip. Thanks.
Uh, thanks for bumping this. I've been believing since last night that this texture pack was not compatible. (and thanks for the tip about the region selection.)

Yeah, this thread really needs to be stickied.

Edit: You might not even have to edit your registry. When I checked mine, it didn't have the "\" at the end that needed to be removed. Still make sure you pick "UK (english)" for your version. I know I would have messed that up if not warned about it.

Yes, but the Download link is broken..
Has anyone gotten this to work under wine? I've run the game once, including loading a save, went back into the registry and deleted the \ at the end of the lines under the ionstorm and GOG registry entries, but when I load up the game all I get is the original low-res textures.
The "Biomodified eyes" option only works with lightest skin tones on Alex (both male and female), at least with my copy of the game. Do you have same problem?
I followed an old graphic tutorial on steam forums, (it won't let me post a link at the moment)
and adjusted the FOV, HUD size, and resolution fix (i have a 1600x900 monitor).

Then I installed the texture pack in question. When I tried to run the game, it "stopped working" on startup, and the details pointed out something like a Kernel.dll file. I've since uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and it starts up and runs fine now.

I guess the question(s) I have are;
what step in that process was most likely the culprit for the crash?
is it possible to fix it?

i'm running on win 7, 64 bit. 6gig ram, AMD phenom II 2.8 ghz processor,
if any of that helps.

Edit: seemed using the hex editor to change the FOV was causing the crash. still don't know if i can change that and make it work....
However, now i'm trying to install the texture pack again with the new install, and it tells me:
"You ahve already installed the Unified Texture Pack using this 'wrapper'.
If you're looking to reopen the Texture Pack installer to reconfigure your install, go to: "

and it tells me to find a shortcut to it. well, since i uninstalled and reinstalled the game, it's not there. i did a full hard drive scan for any remnants, and there are none. yet, i keep getting this message that won't let me install it.

any suggestions?

Further Edit:
Solved it. Unzipped the .exe you download for the texture pack. had base installer in it. running that worked and allowed me to re-install it properly.

Side note: after applying textures, all character models and most other textures were just turned into solid brown models. a little research and i found that during the installation process, choosing "UK english" as the language fixed this (for some weird reason). Everything now works and runs perfectly.

Yep, and again now. Took 4mins to download. Might be a region thing?
Someone should prolly host it on a worldwide free server if possible.
