First, make sure you haveMicrosoft Visual C++ 2010 (x86) installed.
Download Kentie's launcher and choose a renderer among those three : Chris Dohnal's DirectX 9 Renderer or OpenGL renderer or Kentie's DirectX 10 renderer
Then download , [url=http://www.moddb.com/mods/deus-ex-new-vision]New Vision and its Hotfix, Project HDTP and Deus Ex Enhanced

For the sake of simplification, I'm going to assume you've haven't modified the installation path.

1. Launch the game at least once, try launching the training level for instance.
2. Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Deus Ex\System and backup deusex.exe.
3. Install Kentie’s launcher by extracting the files to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Deus Ex\System. Do the same with the renderer you have chosen.
4. Install the HDTP.
5. Extract the NVTextures folder from the NewVision archive to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Deus Ex\ (you should now have C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Deus Ex\NVTextures) and then do the same with the hotfix.
6. Create a folder named Shifter in C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Deus Ex and extract the content of the shifter archive in it.
7. Create a folder named Enhanced in C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Deus Ex and extract the content of the deus ex enhanced archive in it.
8. Launch the new launcher, go to configure, tick non-scaling gui, choose your renderer, set your resolution.
9. Go back and chose Data Directories, here you will set the load order for the mods. It should be like this :

Enhanced
Shifter
NewVision
HDTP

10. Now follow step 7 here : http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14559815&postcount=1

If you are using DirectX 9 you can also use the ENBSeries effect.

this one is also worth your consideration: http://code.google.com/p/deus-ex-human-renovation/
+rep for both of you. Human Renovation is particularly interesting - didn't know about that.

Interesting, I hadn't heard of that mod before.
However it does mention being compatible with HDTP but no word about New Vision.

EDIT : since it only modifies the two files Shifter modifies too, it should be compatible, i'll update the guide later.

I'm just about to try Human Renovation and I have New Vision installed, so watch this space...

Edit: Human Renovation is definitely compatible with New Vision.

Wow, awesome guide. Bookmarked, high rated and definitely going to use it once I buy the game.
Uh... just to get this right: You would use Renovation instead of Shifter, right?

Renovation includes the tweaks made by Shifter among others, so yeah.
Thanks for the guide, it was really useful. Damn, the new graphics make the game look so much better!
Hmmm, now I don't whether I should play the game vanilla or use the Renovation patch/mod. I generally like to play games as close to the original as the developers intended if it's my first time playing a particular game, but on the other hand it sounds like Renovation fixes things, balances some things out and makes the game more challenging which I like as well. What would you guys recommend for someone who's about to play Deus Ex for the first time?

Yep Shifter and Enhanced.

Though for Renovation to work, I think it is better to copy the files into the System folder instead of creating a Renovation folder as there is a change on the deusex.int file.

I would go for Renovation. it's focus IS to stay as close as possible to the original, while fixing myriads of bugs, anomalies and discrepancies-the changes are lighter when compared to shifter or biomod, for example.

Yeah, after testing it out I think i'll go with Renovation.
One more question, I was testing Renovation playing at a resolution of 1440x900 and the FOV seemed more zoomed in than without Renovation. Is it supposed to look like that?
you might have to adjust the fow yourself, see http://widescreengamingforum.com/dr/deus-ex
step 10 says to go here

http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showpost.php?p=14559815&postcount=1

there is an "all in one" zip file that we are supposed to download... however its hosted on megaupload, and if youve been following the news, megaupload was shut down recently... so how do we get those files?

that files contains the ENB settings, which I want... so now what?
