Hello all,

I really enjoy this game but I am getting stuck on one of the halfling, ho! challenges. Specifically, I cant get the hang of all the bloodmage mechanics. My locker options are limited as I'm still fairly early in the game (I think), but I have been going with bet on boss flame magnet and maybe +10 health. When I play, I try to find a L2 enemy but it usually takes up a lot of exploration to defeat just the first one. I'm also not sure when I should be using blood2power...I feel like taking on the stronger enemies early on makes me waste quite a bit of exploration area, and then i run out of health to deal physical damage.

If anyone could help a poor nublet like me I would really appreciate it. Thanks

The Bloodmage is a very powerful class held back by his low base stats. You want to prepare stuff to help overcome that natural disadvantage. I don't know your current locker situation, but if you have the Elven Boots those would be ideal. If you don't, the Fine Sword or Pendant of Health are both good general-purpose choices. Fireball Magnet is absolutely the right pick from the mage guild. The last thing you want is to be bumming around half the dungeon looking for an obligatory damage-dealing glyph.

Prepping a god would be a very good idea. Jehora Jeheyu in particular has huge synergy with the Bloodmage, due to bolstering his otherwise low health and mana pools. His free WEYTWUT glyph is also extremely valuable here. Grimm's Grotto is notorious for being "clogged", and moving monsters out of the way is very useful. Also, it amplifies the XP value of weak monsters so when you come back to kill them later you can ensure more level-ups. If you don't have JJ (or are uncomfortable with him) then Mystera Annur would also work well; Mystic Balance works very well on the bloodmage, since he greatly appreciates the fireball cost discount, and if you can find enough max MP boons then refreshment is also very nice.

The biggest mistake on Grimm's Grotto is trying to level up too much. Grimm's Grotto has a very high difficulty multiplier so the monsters are all very powerful and that makes leveling up hard. However it has only a single boss so you don't actually need to be that powerful; you just need to unload all of your power all at once to overwhelm his defenses. The bloodmage doesn't even need to have enough hit points to survive an attack, since BLUDTUPOWA lets him convert his HP into mana.

A simple plan of attack would be to begin the dungeon by worshipping Jehora Jeheyu. Grab some stat boost boons and slow a bunch of weak monsters, then work your way up to about level 5. Ensure you have about 60 piety stored up and you're just shy of enough XP to reach level 6. Unload all your fireballs then kill a weak monster to reach level 6. Unload your fireballs again, then clean up all the weak monsters to reach level 7 so you can unload your fireballs again. You should now have 80 piety (convert a few extra items if you don't) with Jehora Jeheyu and can afford chaos avatar, which will level you up again and allow you to barrage the boss with fireballs once more. You're now 8th level, and have probably dealt somewhere in the neighbourhood of 500-800 damage to boss (depending on your max mana). Most weaker bosses will already be dead, and even the strongest ones will be on their last leg and can be easily finished off with potions and blood pools.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to give me some help, I will be looking into all the things that you mentioned.
