Class 1 Driller

Thief

Red/Green Hornet

I vote Class 1 Driller since their movements are so unpredictable and damage is as bad as any robot in the game when playing Ace/Insane
Thief bot for sure. It's faster than your lasers, it's got boss-level health, and it can open any door that you can. If you try to chase it, it will lead you through room after room of bots, if you ignore it then it'll snag more items when you're busy fighting other dudes, and if you lie in wait for it then it will irritatingly waste several minutes of your time on every level.

I seriously don't understand why they thought that thing was a good idea.

In the first game, probably the red homing missile bots, primarily because they're usually positioned someplace that makes it difficult to dodge their missiles. Back when I played Descent when it was new, learning how to properly dispose of them was the first major hurdle for me.
I don't like the sounds the Medium and Secondary Lifters make when they hit you (and other lifters too I guess). Like nails on a chalkboard!

I actually really like the thief bot, I thought it was a great concept, much more dynamic and interesting than the other bots that essentially just sit around. Once you get him cornered it's all over anyway.
The Thief is quite annoying, but the only reason I would not say it is my least favorite is because I have a strategy for it..

I typically will clear out the first few rooms in the level, chase the thief into the beginning room and Gauss him to death as he tries to escape.

Class 1 Drillers are the most mobile Descent 1 Robot. What I mean by this is that on Ace/Insane, they move around much more from their assigned cube as opposed to other robots, creating a great deal of uncertainty as to their whereabouts.

This has a drastic effect on the difficulty of the levels, and creates tough situations in which you know they are lurking somewhere nearby, but not sure on their exact location. 75% of the time they surprise me in these situations and can take off 70-80 shields in seconds.

Plus their sound is not all that appealing either lol.
How about the Fusion bots in Descent 1? They seem so eager to steal your jacket... ("JACKET") ;)

Exactly. Class 1 Driller is the number one which I hate so much.
Whatever the bot is that has the vulcan cannon on it in Descent 1 is definitely the worst in my eyes.

They were quite literally the only bot that would damage me, and make progress at some points freaking impossible because they shoot you as soon as they see you and you can't dodge the vulcan cannon...
They just whittle you down 1 after another one burst at a time lol.
/\ Totally agree. Playing Descent 1 right now and that thing is evil on the harder difficulties. On insane It drained so much of my shields I couldn't even continue - but now I'm playing on Ace and I have a method to deal with them (using bombs and the fact that they are so quick to give chase) but they can still be insanely annoying.

The drillers are just scary
I don't worry about how many homing missiles I have left when I know one is near. The class 1 drill baby make all other bot in the area bold. That shriek. I promise.
Oh yeah, that sucka bot that says "burn!"
The Class 1 Driller is the worst bot in Descent. It has scared me many times when I played D1.
From D3, I hate the napalm bot and the shark bot.

I forgot about those, I played through D3 again and completey forgot about their presence on level 10 (the sharks). I'm just glad we only have to worry about them on 2 or 3 levels.
Nasty sneaky buggers and I could never see where they disappeared to after they smacked me!

And I remembered; the napalm bot was called a "Gyro" except equipped with a bigger weapon than the blue Gyros.
Those Vulcan cannon driller bots were a flaming PEST. :)
