I have a Logitech extreme 3d Pro. Running Vista Business on an HP Pavilion laptop. Drivers are current. How can you get the z axis to work right and how can the stick be configured to use the throttle? When I use the configuration option, the twist appears set up right, but when I go to the game, the screen rotates rapidly and can't be stopped. Also, do any of the mods, such as rebirth & d2x-xl work in D3?

This question / problem has been solved by CyPhErIoNimage
you are using the USB version right?
I have one to.
Calibration goes as follows :
1) Control panel
2) Game controllers
3) Select your logiech
4)Properties
5)settings
6)calibrate
in the wizard you can specifiy the Z-axis sensitivity
hope this helps
Another trick i used is using only 1 core if you have a dual core system.
The amd dual core optimizer sometimes fails :p in games speeding it up substantially

Correct on the USB. Calibrating through control panel was fine - no problems. I will try adjusting the Z axis sensitivity.
Thanks Cypher.

well hope it works :)
descent is a very nice classic game
hte only other thing to do is manually go into the xml docs and adjust the settings

Sensitivity adjustments did the trick. All seems to be working with the stick.
Thanks again.

Im assuiming an Xbox350 controller works fine with these games?
*360
I haven't had any luck with my 360 controller on Descent 1, I think the controller's driver reports axes in a strange way, and it only seems to report up to 4 buttons

Same here. It's unplayable. :( Worst part is when you configure the buttons to thrust/reverse, they cut out the fire buttons. Not good.
FYI the triggers are analog and comprise another axis, which is detected as X2, where the 2nd joystick's X axis is reported as Y2 (!) Descent (1 or 2) only sees four buttons at any one time.

You can get around this by using Xpadder to redirect the controller's inputs to keyboard/mouse inputs. You will want to disable in-game joystick support entirely if you go this route otherwise the game will see conflicting inputs.
For those that have your old Flightstick Pro still hanging around, I bought a USB to Joystick adapter on Amazon.com from Sewell Industries. It required no drives, so I connected my joystick, plugged it into my laptop's USB port, started Descent, and it not only recognized my Flightstick Pro, but it worked perfectly!
Also, this particular adapter has toggle switch for gamepads, so for those trying to fly Descent with a gamepad, you might check this out!
Happy nausea!
I have a CH 568 Combatstich USB and in descent I can't get the slide to program. Game will only recognize foward, reverse, primary and secondary fire. I'm not very computer savvy. Any ideas?

Is this one of the programable joysticks from CH? My friend Shawn bought USB joystick from CH recently, and it had 3 programable modes, so he could make it function like a Flightstick Pro. Maybe yours can too?
