Many people are confused by this so I want to be absolutely clear:

If you purchase the Deponia Series on GoG.com you will NOT receive the full game.

Only Steam is selling the complete journey with all of the content.

That means extra storyline content that wraps up loose ends found in all copies on GoG.com will ONLY be available through Steam.

Daedalic has NO plans to bring this complete content to GoG.com

This is true as of the 3.2 update.

In fact, it is suggested that there will NO LONGER be anymore updates to Deponia games on GoG.com. 3.2 was to bring Deponia series up to the newest game engine.

I am a little upset at this news. This means I bought games that were incomplete, and I didn't know it at the time. In fact, I didn't know it until after it was impossible for me to return it.

I would appreciate if this thread was kept up on top so everyone knows, because the current sales information for these games don't explicitly address this issue.
I don't really understand what you mean. The games were complete when released here so I'm not sure what the sales information needs to address. It's not like there's anything advertised that isn't present.

Daedalic Entertainment released Deponia the Complete Journey with added content. They said they added storyline content when they did so. I am literally getting conflicting information from everyone regarding this.

Deponia: The Complete Journey is a re-release of all three games with added story content. GOG does not sell this title.

What GOG does sell is Deponia, Deponia 2: Chaos on Deponia and Deponia 3: Goodbye Deponia separately. All three are complete as far as the standalone games are concerned. And, with the most recent patch, totally up-to-date.

The company you should be spitting your venom at is Daedalic, not GOG. Rather than simply add this new content to the currently existing games either for free or as some sort of DLC, they decided to repackage them and resell them in an attempt to force fans to buy the games again in order to see these small new additions. Whether it was Daedalic's or GOG's decision not to sell the collection here, I do not know. Regardless, I am glad that it isn't here because it was a sad, greedy choice on Daedalic's part that I most likely wouldn't have supported with my wallet.

While the additional content might be nice in attempting to blend the three games together better, it does not in any way make the standalone games incomplete.

Why are you bumping this, jonaschl? The "shocking truth" that daibozofgurth claims to be revealing is neither shocking nor entirely accurate. Daedalic loves to double-dip their games and this is just another example of that.

GOG has not done anything nefarious and the versions of Deponia 1, 2 and 3 that are here are as complete as the stand-alone games can be. Deponia: The Complete Journey is a repackaging of the three original games with a couple of small bits of extra content to make the games feel like one long game instead of three separate ones. It is, technically speaking, a different game, so content that it contains isn't missing from the original trio of games, it just didn't exist at the time they were made.

Granted, as a completionist, I can understand wanting to have ALL of something, but to call the Deponia Trilogy incomplete because Daedalic decided to repackage them is just not fair. Deponia: The Complete Journey is more of an "Extended Director's Cut". If a movie studio releases an "Extended Edition" or a "Director's Cut" of a movie, they don't then have to slap stickers on all of the regular editions to "warn" people that those versions are incomplete; the regular editions are as complete as they need to be.

The main reason I was upset at The Complete Journey was because it put the first two games into the third game's engine. However, that feature was added to the original three games here on GOG in the most recent patch, so I really have no further complaints. Would having those few precious sentences of extra story be nice? Sure. But that's on Daedalic, not on GOG.

1) Can I see this additional content in some videos?
2) What do you like so much on the new engine or what don't you like on the engine of part 1?

MarkoH01: 1) Can I see this additional content in some videos?

1) You'll have to seek it out yourself. I don't have the "The Complete Collection" and I haven't finished all three games, so I don't want to spoil myself trying to find a video for you. In an interview that I can no longer find, so take this with a grain of salt, Daedalic said that they added or extended a few scenes in order to make the transition between games more seamless since they are selling this thing as one long game rather than three separate games in one package. If this information is bogus, then there's even less of a reason to buy this product over the original three.

2) I was a "late bloomer" to GOG, so I only bought the trilogy during this past summer sale. Heck, I didn't even know what Deponia was until I came to GOG last year. By the time I actually installed the games, the updated 3.2 patch was already available. Because of this, I cannot say what changes to the engine were made. All I know is that the patch notes specifically say that they upgraded the engine in parts 1 and 2 to bring them in line with part 3. I have no preference otherwise.

Thank you. Meanwhile I found a Let's Play video of the complete edition. I've already played all three games (a long time ago) so I could risk some spoilers. As far as I could see by skipping through those videos is that they added a questlog and developer comments (in German) to the game. Also a quite different menu but so far no story changes (I've looked at the moment where part 1 ended and part 2 began). I'll take a closer look at those videos but because there are over 100 videos in this Let's Play it may take me some time until I really can assure that there is no new actual content.

As I said I played the first version of Deponia 1 and had no problems afair that was why I asked.

Edit: I have bought the GOG version of Deponia and compared the new engine with the old. The game runs much better on the new engine so ot is definitely an advantage that the game has been updated to the engine of "The complete Journey".

After informing myself and skipping through a complete Let's Play video I can confirm that the only difference between the single games (patched to newest version) and "The complete journey" are:

Developer commentarys (including new Poki songs).
Questlog (sometimes funny but I did not need it in the old game so why now?).
Map for directly accessing specific game parts (I have savegames for that).
Bonus Videos (You can watch them on youtube).
Soundtrack only for "Goodbye Deponia" included.

So it is not true that you will get less game or story if you buy the single games on GOG.com.

I just found out, that the audio files for the developer's comments are all in there. There is just no way to play them in game. But with VIXExt (an extraction tool for the engine), you can extract the game files and listen to them in your favorite player. There is also an English commentary included.

Wow! Seriously? I will have to give that a try. Thank you for the information, LogicDeLuxe! +1
Okay, so the topic title may not be as good as it could be, but...

After my annoyance with the Complete Journey being a separate package faded (owning all three Deponias on both platforms) I did get a bit peeved that GOG doesn't have the Complete Journey, cause I wouldn't mind playing the entire 'saga' as a single game.

*goes to check if there's a wishlist item for it*

Sorry 'bout the bump. I get reminded of this every time Deponia goes on sale. This time I figured I'd search the forum if someone else had noticed.
Sorry about this bump but I thought it would be nice to share this.
I just noticed that Deponia: The Complete Journey currently is on a huge sell at Humble Bundle... DRM-free!
You can check it out here: https://www.humblebundle.com/store/deponia-the-complete-journey
I'm wondering why there's a DRM-free version at Humble Bundle but not at GOG. I would love being able to listen to the commentary in-game.
But this proves there's a DRM-free version of it.

I hope Daedalic will publish it here as well.
