Since the game card says nothing about the kinds of multi-player available, could someone tell me which parts of the series contain LAN support, have Galaxy independent multi-player (IP-based for example) or rely on Galaxy?

I have the discs and I installed it on two machines, I had to get a patch online for lan to work. I'm not sure about the GOG version, I actually wanted to know this before I bought it.

Use Gameranger to play lan over the net, I used to with my son works great.
