Look, I loved the game on the 360. It played pretty well (with some flaws) and looked pretty great in its own way, despite all the hyperbolic criticism. It had a very unique narrative and some really great characters. It's actually one of my favorite games of all time and I jumped at the chance to be able to play it again after my Xbox died -- especially a supposedly better version.

Well guys RISING STAR GAMES' PC version of ACCESS GAMES' offbeat classic has the ignominious distinction of being the WORST COMPUTER PORT IN RECENT MEMORY. In addition to the features that are absent (there is NO CONTROLLER SUPPORT and there is NO WAY TO ADJUST resolution and the graphics are actually a little WORSE in spots), this game is rife with fun-disrupting and outright GAME-BREAKING glitches the original didn't have.

Look, don't let your fanboyism sway you. I preordered this garbage and it's one of the few games I actually rue buying and I can't get my money back.

DON'T BUY! THE GREEDY JERKS AT RISING STAR GAMES HAVE BEEN CONTACTED AND THEY AREN'T DOING JACK!

EDIT: Oh, and don't forget you can barely aim over your head (not a problem in the original), which makes some of the fighting difficult and some of the bonus challenges impossible! And that the game sometimes crashes bad enough to scramble your saves! Ha!

What game-breaking bugs? I only know about Novotus not seeing the intro when Anna's body is found.
I'm asking out of curiousity. I don't own the PC-Version.

As for the graphics... a little worse? The conmsole game already was last gen, so I doubt a little worse effects here and there are much of a problem.
I mean, DP being outdated was its charme.

It's fixed already - problem with my codecs :)

Good to know. :)
And, can you confirm any bugs the game has? Encountered any so far?

Had one crash (mentioned already on Steam forums) when trying to drive for the first time. After restarting the computer it went smoothly.
Nothing more so far (meet certain salesman for the first time not long ago). Even the controlls are tolerable :)

Confirm the driving bug but not at first time. Occured later for me. Also, the FPS seem to go down after playing for a while. No game breaking bugs so far (ep 2 chap 2) .
Update:
I spent some time playing (mostly driving around the town, collecting subquests and subquest items and replaying action sequences to get some money and items) - no crashes or any other problems (well, I crashed a car... but that's because I suck at driving in this game :)
I support this warning, the game doesn't even start up. Waste of money, don't purchase.

That's most likely because of your individual configuration. If it would be a major issue there would be far more complains here and on steam discussions. If I would rant everytime a game failed on me on first launch...;)

There are plenty of rants on the Steam forums, plenty of glitches, including the one I've encountered, and a few suggestions to fix. Unfortunately none of which work. If you're luckier than I and manage to get it working, you could still encounter crashes as many have indicated on the steam forums. Just be warned what you're purchasing, it may not work.

I would encourage everyone to read the Steam forums as a better indicator of how many problems there are with it.

Hmm, I scrolled through 3 pages of steam forum and found none that describes your issue. Sure there are flaws and glitches but "HELP, DP doesn't run at all" seems not a common issue. So, I would try steps to find out what causes the crash. There are many possibillities (verify game cache, conflicting security software, outdated/incompatible drivers, etc.)
Good luck.

Well, *I've* seen plenty of "DP doesn't run at all!" and "Help! It doesn't work anymore!" and you will too if you go LOOK AT THE FORUMS. I mean, this thing, this broken port, it's outrageous, guy. Don't try to sugarcoat it. If I thought wishing would make it work better, I would sure try it, because I'm a true psycho about some of my entertainment products.

I don't mean any harm, I really don't. I certainly don't wish any ill upon Deadly Premonition itself (which I adore) or its chances of getting a sequel (which this HORRIBLE port is hurting quite severely). I just don't want YOU GUYS to get snookered of your dollars, pounds, yuan or rupees for something that isn't halfway functional. I also don't want this busted version to be your first, extremely negative, exposure to DP, which is, in fact, a wacky-cool classic.

And finally . . .

HEY, NOBODY ELSE BUY THIS JUNK UNTIL SOMETHING GIVES! There's lots of other great things on GOG and Steam and Desura to buy! There's Witchers and Giana Sisters and great Daedalic adventures!

Well, that's a bad comparison. Those games are already patched as hell ! DP is a very early game (as it comes to pc) and the company behind it is small. With a little investigation it should run on most PC's. I repeat, start-up issues are moslty user based.

That's not a good attitude to wine about a game isn't starting instead of searching for clues and trying the hints that are given. Often a re-installation helps cure problems.

After searching steam forums without finding anything I tried googling "DP doesn't start" in different combinations and I don't get any results. Give links, please.

EDIT: Ah, finally I found a topic about it(silly NEW steam forums). I wildly guess, that physx is the problem (if you own an Nvidia GPU). There is a link to Metro 2033 with a probable solution.

I'm just saying I had no problem with the game so far (only one random crash - nothing to be very fussy about). Sure, the port could've been better (it's understandable that the resolution issue bothers some people, that key remapping should be a little better and it should've been tested on more system configurations for compatibility).
But I just wanted people to know that the game works almost flawlessly for some users and I'm enjoying the hell of it.
