Good morning,
I just wanted to say: while on the respective Steam forum hell is lose, people spit blood and the tone is absolutely harsh, here I find a friendly bunch of people discussing quietly. And it's always like this, on almost each board here.
/pathos on This is the very spirit of GOG /pathos off

Cheers

Yea, just going through Steam forum in search of a solution to my problem, but I can't dig anything up from under the tones of nonsence and complaining :)
I'm just happy to see York visiting my PC :)

Yeah, reading Steam forums makes me lose my faith in humanity completely. So for your own peace of mind, don't do it.

I just looked up that forum now and wow, I really regret it. Am I the only one that doesn't care about the lack of graphics options and that it's only up to 720p?

My only issue right now is that the game crashes at full screen (obviously a resolution problem) so I gotta play windowed. Other than that I'm loving this game so far.

Actually I tried to go down with the resolution (performance is far ahead of graphics in my book) using the unofficial patch, but it made York semi-transparent and some textures got messy :)
Good thing the game runs fine on its native resolution :)

You should report that to Durante, I think he would want to know.
Controller support is the only thing that prevents me from buying at the moment.

I also use steam forum as well and yeah, the responses are way off the tangent.
The lack of controller support is a bummer, but I've gotten used to the mouse+keyboard scheme (which did feel a bit awkward for the first few minutes). I've seen a few people on steam calling it unplayable without a controller, but I don't think it's anywhere near that bad.
I noticed that the Steam forums for this game are absolute chaos, no one is really giving this version a fair shake before decrying it. I tried this version earlier coming from the 360 version and all the complaints about the controls are silly. In fact, I found the PC version's control scheme a bit too good in comparison to the original 360 version that it took me a bit to get used to it. I will admit it kind of sucks that you can't change the resolution without a hack, and the cutscenes play in a very jerky manner, but those things can be fixed so it is not that much of a problem really.
Absolutely agree.
I think this owes to the very nature of what GOG stands for... you know... GOOD OLD games... as opposed to NEW COD KIDDIES.
I don't mean to generalize but there's a very clear reason as to why we are here on GOG, and what kind of people we are. (There's even a guy who complains about GRAPHICS there on steam)
Getting off my horse now :P

Tried to replicate it to get screengrabs, but it haven't occured - so probably I just messed something editing the file.

I don't think you're the only one who feels that way.

At the same time, if you don't see why a game with one default resolution and no upscaling is upsetting for some people with one optimal resolution on their LCD monitor, then you might consider things a bit further.

It's the lack of upscaling I find confusing here, because that's really something that should be there. I don't really remember the last time I played a newly-released PC game with no upscaling. It's not like that takes much time or is difficult to implement.

As someone with a 16:10 monitor, there may be options for me to force a proper perspective in this game, but for the developer to not consider 16:10 resolutions is also kind of bizarre.

I think the developer deserves a lot of credit for crafting a great game, but I don't think that means we should all just give them a free pass for the issues that are there.
I'm not worried about locked 720p resolution either. Controller support, on the other hand...

I guess in general our average age is higher than that of Steam users... And we're used to playing the old games using dosbox with x2 scaling, 720p is freaking gorgeous in comparison... And, also there are more customers in Steam than in GoG.

Some are insisting that the game be taken down from Steam Store etc etc... Quite extreme, in my opinion. The only misleading behaviour by the company seems the "partial controller support" claim on Steam Store page. GoG doesn't say that... And once it's fixed I'll stick to GoG version anyway, hopefully GoG will not take it down from the store!

720p on a 16:10 monitor is distorted without upscaling and/or scale adjustment for screen-ratio. Many 4:3 monitors won't even be able to display 720p, and, if they can, will be highly distorted in most cases.

In contrast, older games mostly use 4:3 resolutions, which are compatible with just about everything. Since 720p is a resolution intended for HDTVs, there are bound to be issues with many PC setups if that's the only resolution available.

As an example, if my 21" CRT monitor were my primary display these days, this would likely be one of the only games where I would have issues.

If the developer included a 4:3 resolution, such as 800x600 or 1024x768 (which is a 4:3 resolution very close to 720p), then I might agree that people were just complaining because their expectations are somewhat inflated. But, as it is, there are going to be people out there who just can't play this game because of the 720p resolution, and I think that's worth considering.

So for you resolution is a bigger issue...

And haha, that's why there's so much chaos in Steam forum I believe. Some claim locked resolution is the problem, some people say it's fine for me so I don't see that's the problem.... And well both sides aren't backing down...

In some way I can sympathise with those complaiing since probably the best way to get developers to act on such issues are to kick enough fuss... Because chances are, otherwise Dev won't. Like how Dark Souls has locked 720p resolution (still hasn't been fixed yet) and how it was fixed by community. So I guess Steam forums are doing us favour, let them make enough noise and we'll just sit back and watch ;-)
