This is not really GoG-releated, but maybe someone knows a workaround.
I owned Dead Space already on Origin, before I got it on GoG. Since I now have it DRM free, I would prefer to play that version of course.
That works ... until I start Origin. Origin then detects the Gog installation and "updates" it. From that moment on the GoG-Version starts the Origin Client when I start it.

Does anyone have the same problem? How do I stop Origin from messing with my GoG-Games?

edit: Just great ... I just tried to install both versions, then uninstall the Origin version through the launcher. It deleted the GOG-Version instead of it's own version, meaning that it accesses the games location through Windows' list of installed applications. On the other hand that might also be the solution ... Edit registry and remove Dead Space from the list of installed applications

Origin doesn't do this to me with Dead Space. However, I have a dedicated folder in "Program Files (x86)" that I install all my games into called (unoriginally) "Games" so I suspect this is why it doesn't affect me. You could at the very least try it to see if it works for you; uninstall Dead Space completely, then reinstall your GOG version but have it install into another directory inside of "Program Files (x86)" like I do (or somewhere else entirely if it suits you better), then see if Origin finds it when you start it. If it does then, well shit I don't know what's going on.

Thanks for the suggestion. When I find the time, I'll try that. I didn't really bother anymore to be honest. But I'm curious if that would work.
In my case I installed the GoG version in "e:\Games\GoG\Dead Space"
and the Origin version in "e:\Games\ElectronicArts\Dead Space".

For the GoG version I used the offline installer. One last possibility would be to try downloading it through Galaxy

I must say that my previous post is likely all wrong as it turns out I didn't actually own Dead Space on Origin at all. When I wrote that post I was thinking I definitely had it in my library but it didn't occur to me how I got it which I realised (when it expired last week) was through having a Origin Access Basic membership. As such although I had access to Dead Space it wasn't technically in my library on Origin as I didn't ever download and install it from there. So my suggestion is as I say most likely completely wrong and won't help you at all, so sorry about that.

I only use the offline installers on GOG too incidentally, but who knows the Galaxy client may work if all else fails. In the end though I suspect based on the rather vague response
this guy got for the same issue with other games that this might be something that can only be fixed behind the scenes by GOG themselves.

Thanks, that saved me some time :) ... and no worries, it was definitly better than no idea at all.

In my opinion it would probably be enough to change the ID (name of the game? could be changed to "Dead Space (GOG)") used by Origin to find the game location in the registry. And yep, that would have to be done by GoG - at least for fresh installations. I can just edit the registry myself and edit/remove the entries.

I just could not bring myself to try it so far.

In my opinion something like that should be done by the Origin programmers. What do we have launchers for if they don't manage/store the game locations without relying on the registry?

Thanks for the input anyway.
Have you tried to rename the Dead Space launch ".exe" from the GOG release?

Maybe Origin will than not find it, so no update applied.
