I don't use Galaxy, and anyway I'm playing on Linux so it wouldn't even be an option. It seems you must be connected to Galaxy to play a daily challenge? If I try to enter the daily challenges I get a error about not having an internet connection.

The big problem for me is that it seems you must complete daily challenges to unlock some of the items, so this effectively blocks me out of those items. Is there anyway to play the daily challenges on Linux without Galaxy?

You do not need Galaxy for daily challenge, the game was just out of date.
You can update the new version now and it should work.

I think that's inaccurate. I am also playing on Linux (hence without GOG Galaxy), on the latest version, and I can also not access the daily run. The game tells me to check my internet connection.

That is true. Sorry. This was my fault. On linux (without galaxy) it is (still) not working.
Same problem here on Linux port. No daily challenges.
Annoyingly, I tested on a Windows computer and the daily challenges work there without Galaxy. At least it should be pretty simple to bring support to Linux though.
I filed this as a bug on their discord server a few months ago. I hope it gets fixed.

Unfortunately they now require phone authentication or somesuch bullshit to write on their discord server, putting it on read-only, essentially locking me out.
No more bug reports from me Motion Twin.

Any news ? It's been several months now and the "Rise of the Giant" extension did not solve this issue.
Same here !
I thought about purchasing this game right now. But since this problem wasnt fixed for years - I think, I probably will wait for 50% off, if buy at all (but will obviously change my opinion if this issue will be solved - played DC on my friend's pc and it was hella fun)
okay, guys. I've reported this issue to their discord. And looks like it wont be fixed, coz recently game's store page was updated with "Additional Notes: Galaxy client is required to access Daily Runs and Streaming features ".

To sum this up: if you are linux user and wanna get full experience/participate in daily runs - rather buy game on steam or dont buy at all
I think I figured out a fix for this. It's probably many months too late for most of you, but if somebody could reply back and confirm that it works, that'd be great.

Open the game directory, rename or remove libSDL2-2.0.so.0, and install the libsdl2-2.0-0 package on the system (or its non-APT equivalent).

The reason I did this is because I replaced an Xbox 360 controller with an Xbox One controller and the game didn't recognise it. Eventually I suspected the issue was with input-handling code, and I forced the game to use the system version of SDL.

This got the new controller working, and to my surprise, the Daily Challenge now works too.

P.S: For those reading in the future, this is Dead Cells version 1.5.7.

Wow, thank you so much for this tip! It didn't fix the Daily Challenges for me, but at least I can now use my HORI Fighting Commander with Dead Cells.
I tried this using Ubuntu 20.04 with no luck, the package was already installed for me so I just renamed the file, no luck, can't get into Daily challenges or pull the feed.
