DA2 starts with a turncoat absconding with most of your already-meager resources in the night. I've read that an upgraded garden will greatly help with the food and water problem, so I spend a couple of days gathering scrap and materials for the level II garden, The garden is built and upgraded, and then I race to Freedom City for Tessa's Zomdex, spending every one of my last $80, and I get back and she dies immediately. And I'm out of food and water, so I can't garden. So I send a team out that's already partly starved and dehydrated to gather food and water. The team scarfs half of what I find in the field during the trip, and other other half is swallowed up immediately upon returning to base by the ever burgeoning population of survivors wandering into the base. So I'm out of food and water, again. So I go out hunting for food and water with a half-dead party, and am eventually, predictably slaughtered. Also, during this slow grind into the dirt, I was supposed to be upgrading the various rooms in the settlement, building bulwarks and hunting towers and doing side-quests for various factions, etc, etc. Really?

I've had eight or nine runs of this game, and they've all played out along more or less these same lines. The common denominator of them was that they all very quickly devolved into vain scrabbles for basic resources no matter what I tried. I want to like this game: the 3d art and environments are attractive and interesting (the 2D art is a tad amateurish in my opinion), and the undead encounters varied and fun. But at the moment, I feel like I'm facing the zombie apocalypse equivalent of the Kobayashi Maru and, more to the point, wasting my time. I may revisit DA2 at some point in the future, but I think It's rather more likely that I'll simply forget it.

You can get zomdex for free if you buy the right upgrades for medals, every time you visit a city you can buy some resources (food, water, materials or scrap) at merchants, it is actually pretty cheap (supplies refreshes every 5 days) also some of the items can negate thirst or hunger so you can use them at the end of the day/night to negate penalty.
