Unfortunately it seems that there is a bit of a bug with saving the graphics settings for this game.

Resolution is saved correctly, so is gamma; however shadow quality and anti-aliasing reset after a restart to low settings.

The settings file is located:
C:\Users\{USERNAME}\AppData\Local\Darksiders2\options.dopt

This file can be deleted while the game is running, and it is recreated as soon as the options are changed again. Setting this file to read only does not fix the problem.

Anti-aliasing in the game appears to be some type of FXAA due to the considerable blurring that occurs with textures. I've found that Mr Haandi's inject SMAA works ok on the low settings (SMAA seems to have a noticable performance impact on high on my GTX750), which allows you to retain crisp textures in game with some level of anti-aliasing.

Shadows aren't very nice; even on highest settings...but there isn't much that can be done as the option.dopt is not a plain text document that can easily be edited.

I've always thought though that darksiders 1 looked better than darksiders 2; but i'm still very happy to finally get them on GOG.

Yeah I noticed that bug too . Maybe it's only happening only GOG's version ? Also wondering what's the backup exe in backup folder ?
Not sure what that backup exe is for; maybe something left over from the steam version?

These settings that are forgotten are GPU agnostic. My AMD R9 280X, Nvidia GTX750 or integrated HD4000 all wont remember the settings on exit, so it seems likely to be a bug with this version.

I suspect though that it may of been a problem that was never actually fixed, since the two options that aren't remembered weren't in the original PC release version (Shadows & Anti-aliasing).

Unfortunately this means that driver forced Anti-aliasing isn't very easy to do.

On my Nvidia GPU system it isn't possible (I use Nvidia Inspector), since it only applies the AA settings during launch and since darksiders 2 overrides it with it's own (rubbish) FXAA, when you turn it off in the menu you end up with no anti-aliasing at all. In this case the SMAA injector is the best option for myself, since it can run in tandem to the FXAA; hence when you disable it within the menu, you still have SMAA anti-aliasing running.

On the AMD GPU system, I run radeon pro which can apply settings dynamically while the programs are running. So on launching darksiders 2, the program once again resets the anti-aliasing settings to their defaults, I change shadows to max and AA to zero. Then I can Alt-Tab back to windows and force the AA settings through Radeon Pro.

I tried backup .exe it seems working without DLCs . AA and that shadow options were added with latest patch but never heard that issue . Probably it's only happening with GOG release . I send a ticket to support .
This was not fixed yet?
No.

I was hoping that when I saw the update on this post that you might of been the solution giver :)
The steam version saves the settings, I have sent a support ticket to GOG about it, it is a shame because I want to play it on GOG.

Hi, Try this it might work.
If it is a text file ( back up the file before) save the setting as per user and right click the settings file ,tick the box read only.

I have did this for couple of games, some time game forgets the settings.
or
you can try some Nvidia settings(jpg attached) for better results.

or You can reduce resolutions(check the given link).
