I really wish I could get this game to work. I have tried all the work around suggested in this post with no luck. The intro video plays fine and looks fine. but once I get into the menu or the game, the colors are completely messed up. I am running window 7 64bit. Not sure what else to try at this point.

Same problem here. Nothing works. I wonder if there is a difference with ATI and Nvidia graphic cards. I have a Win7 64bit and ATI card, so maybe their drivers are different from nvidia. Just a guess because I can't figure anything other at this point.

ATI/Nvidia has nothing to do with it. I have Win7 64-bit and an Nvidia card, the "pause" bat file only worked the first time, and asking me to restart with a CD from then on. Just for S&G, I took out my Nvidia card, put in my old 6950 - same problem. Definitely an issue with Win7 64-bit.

Edit:
Just checked the launchers, and now, for some reason, the bat file still doesn't work right, but the shortcuts created by the installer work fine. I have no clue why, however.

Edit 2:
Okay, now none of them work again. This is ridiculous.

Edit 3:
Decided to try F4LL0UT's registry fix. Downloaded and unzipped it, clicked on the 64-bit registry and now the GOG launchers work fine. No color errors right from the first menu. I'm not sure why he thought it wouldn't work for the digital download, but anyways, F4ll0UT deserves a cookie.

Thank you. I guess I maybe should create a separate thread for the fix as my post here doesn't seem to have enough visibility.

flamming_python: The only problem is that your registry colour fix doesn't seem to work for long. Changing the brightness in the main menu reverts the colours to their proper value, yet they mess up again after a couple of screens.
When playing, the first few minutes is fine and everything has the proper colours, yet after a little while they suddenly become psychedelic again for no apparent reason.

Eh... maybe you can look into it?
We're so close to getting a useable Dark Reign version..
Dang, too bad you didn't use the reply function, now it's taken me half a year to find this post. I'll check whether the color fix requires adjustments when using version 1.7 (the application ID may have changed and rendered my reg files useless).

What's this "version 1.7" everyone keeps mentioning? I only have the basic GOG version and Bing didn't turn up any real answeres. Also, I have found that the colors go weird if you don't load from a save game. For some reason the video where your ship finds the probe screws up the colors on the mission menu, and also any sort of OSD from keyboard or firewall/antivirus also disrupts the colors. As there is no way to change the brightness in a mission, the only option is to abort to the mission menu, where the colors are once again correct.

Edit:
Not really related, but does anyone know how much EVERY game on GOG costs total? I'm kinda wanting to buy all the games as a way of supporting the DRM Free movement.

It's an unofficial patch created by the community. There's actually a sticky thread posted by GOG staff in these very forums that tells you where you can find it. (namely here)

Indeed, somehow I had not encountered these issues when I first tested the fix, not quite sure why. Now the corrupt colors are restored whenever the game loses focus, be it because of cutscenes or something else popping up in windows. I'm afraid that registry fix won't be enough but I'll try a few things. I'm wondering whether an update to the game has made the registry fix work worse.

You may want to post that question in the general discussion forums, chances of getting a reply are much higher there. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that it's gonna be several thousands of dollars. There used to be a counter telling you how many games are available on GOG somewhere, can't find it now but I think it's 600+ games, maybe already 700. I guess that the average undiscounted price is approximately ten bucks so, yeah... it's gonna be a lot.

Hey, thanks for a guess at least. Hmm, well I'm planning to buy a few hundred anyways, so it's all good.

Dark Reign 1.7; just search for it on google - already forgot where to get it - but basically it's a fan-made patch.

And if your colours mess up during the mission, just save the game and reload it - the colours should OK again, at least for the next 15 minutes or so.

I haven't found any way to save during a mission. I can only find options to restart the mission or abort. I'm not too worried about this.

The menu tab on the right in the interface - the first option should be load/save game

Well, I just tried to migrate my OS to my new SSD, and was forced to run a new install. So, I won't be able to tell you if my game is messed up or not until I manage to get everything fixed up again.
