The colors are completely messed up. I have WIn. 7 32 bit. The dark reign page is down, so I cannot find the patch, which supposedly addressed this. Anyone know a fix or work-around? I got it to start ONCE with perfect graphics, I didn't do anything special, so I could never figure out how I did it.

I think it can be solved by killing the explorer process in the taskbar, but I'm not sure.

I did read about that one, and it works so far, but I'd prefer NOT to have to kill essential processes. Thank you for taking the time to answer
this is a win7 related color palette problem, you can read about it here and try one of the fixes:

I used it for starcraft when i was on win7, it might work for dark reign too

i think there was also the alternative to write a batch file which kills explorer.exe, starts the game and restarts exlorer.exe on leaving the game

Can someone tell me (a person with a low tech level) how this is done?

Press Ctrl-Alt-Del or rightclick on the taskbar and select the taskmanager, click the process tab and rightclick on explorer.exe and end the process.
If you want to restart explorer.exe, press windows-R and type explorer.
Strijkbout - Thanks for the advice and your quick response. Giving it a try now. Will let you know how it goes. Cheers.

I thank you but I fear it's a no go. When I end the explorer.exe my desktop disappears and nothing will work. Have to restart. Man do I miss XP. Only windows ever I never had a problem out of.
Strijkbout - Found a way to get it done. I bring up GOG and get Dark Reign ready to launch. At this point, bring up task manager and end the explorer.exe. Launch game. It runs good enough and when I exit game, explorer.exe starts back up and everything is back to normal. Thanks again for your advice. Never would have gotten it working otherwise. Cheers.

The latest community patch (v1.8.1) removes the need to do this and fixes the color palette bug
