On GOG, this game is listed as having a Windows and Mac port, not mentioning a Linux port. However, there is a Linux port available to those who purchased the game on Steam. So, if a Linux port exists for this game, why isn't it being sold on GOG? And if a Linux port will be added to GOG at some point, why isn't that mentioned anywhere?
Honestly, this is why I buy more games on Steam. Steam has a better track record with Linux that GOG does.
I 100% agree with you there. So many games are missing a Linux version and I don't who I can blame for the situation. GOG for not pushing developers hard enough to provide a Linux version for their game, especially if it already exists on Steam and other stores.
Or the Developers for clearly having no clue how to ship a Linux version of their game on GOG.

It's so frustrating because GOG is the only viable option for DRM free games out there but it doesn't seem to be the most viable option for Linux gamers.
The Linux version was still here a few days ago, according to Magog. Very strange...
Hi All! I'm Heather the Community Manager and Producer for Brace Yourself Games. There is no Linux version available for GoG because we used the GoG Galaxy API to make the leaderboards and achievements work. Galaxy does not support Linux yet.

Please let me know if you have more questions and there will a be a Q&A on Monday the 17th from 1 to 3pm PDT (8-10pm GMT). I'll be there as will Ryan Clark the creator of Crypt of the NecroDancer!

So much for Galaxy being "Completely optional, and will not affect the normal method of downloading games from the GOG website." This sets a dangerous precedent, if the lack of GOG Galaxy means a whole category of customers won't be able to play just because they couldn't bear to release a version without leaderboards and achievements.

I was eager to buy this from GOG; I even held off buying it on Steam, since the store page promised Linux support up until 2 weeks ago, but I refuse to buy it here until we get what we were promised.

Hi kreidos!

I'm sorry to hear that this is a frustration for you. We definitely want NecroDancer to be available to as many players as possible. You're right that Galaxy is optional, that said without Galaxy we'd be providing an inferior version of the game without leaderboards or achievements.

I appreciate your reply, and your dedication to the community. :)

I will just hope Galaxy will come to linux soon. It's been promised for months.

I appreciate your response, but that doesn't change the fact that you've lost a sale.

Hah. Withholding a Linux version on GOG for another year, or however long it takes for Linux Galaxy, is hardly "available to as many players as possible".

I won't be using Galaxy, the whole optional part, which means even with a Galaxy enabled Linux build of the game I still won't have leaderboards or achievements. The game still needs to be able to function without them. What's truly inferior is not having the game at all. Perhaps, you should reevaluate the whole Linux build.
I agree, I was ecstatic to get this game. I followed it on Steam and hoped that it would one day go to GOG. I had it on my wish list for quite some time now. Bummer it isn't coming to Linux because of GOG Galaxy... I don't care about Galaxy, leaderboards, or achievements one bit!

Not just many but Many as hell - http://www.gog.com/mix/games_that_have_native_linux_portselsewhere
And many of them kinda not hurry with port release here.
Again, apologies for your frustration folks. We're hoping for Galaxy Linux support soon. Although I do understand that won't make a difference to those of you who don't want to use Galaxy at all. Hopefully those of you who are still interested will still enjoy the game. :)

Thank you for your response and welcome to GOG, while I understand your company thought this would be a fair and good idea, believe me it's going to make a lot of people angry (it probably already has) and me included.

I would rather have the so called "inferior version" than nothing at all. Personally I don't care one bit about achievements or leaderboards, just wanted to enjoy the damn game.

I'm sorry if I'm sounding rude to you, but I'm just very disappointed and upset at such a decision. Can only say that I was interested in this game. Please forward this to your team and reconsider your decision.

EDIT: Only now I saw your last post.

Keep in mind the community here enjoys DRM-Free games, now if you come and say we won't release the games because Galaxy is not on Linux and we don't want to provide the game without features X,Y,Z then that is like saying "we're enforcing players to use Galaxy to play this game", believe me that will scream as loud as possible and people don't react well to DRM in games on GOG.

By the attitude of your posts, you can forget that I will ever buy this game and future ones from your company. I'll vote with my wallet and I choose to give my money to more open minded devs.

It seems to me that it would be worth it to make a LINUX build that just stays "coming soon" for leaderboard and achievements. And then get it out to your customers.

That's just me putting some thoughts out there. I'm a Microsoft boy through and through. So I won't miss anything.

Whoa that's a long list. But you can remove Megabyte Punch from it.
