IronArcturus: I wish I knew what else to look for, or I wish GOG could send me a program that would uninstall any "leftovers" from Galaxy.
avatar
Gydion: This would be a good solution. Problem is I don't think one has ever been written.

IronArcturus: I sent in a ticket to Support about the Necrodancer issue, but they kept telling me to "reinstall Galaxy." I don't want to install it. A DRM-free game shouldn't require an unnecessary client whatsoever.

Gydion: Might be worth a try to chat Tolya then. Explaining that you're not going to install Galaxy, technically you never did, but are happy to help with any logs & etc they want. You're more interested in getting the actual bug fixed.
Thanks for the info! I'm hoping Tolya can help me out.

NecroHeather:
Has there been an update on this situation? I would like to have a Windows version of Necrodancer that does not look for or need Galaxy to run properly. That would fix the problem.
We've been unable to reproduce this issue on any of our machines. We'd love to fix it but need repro steps that work to cause the crash for anyone on our team. I'm using Windows 10 and tried the game without Galaxy, with Galaxy, and then having uninstalled Galaxy. So I'm wondering if it's possibly an interaction between Windows 7 and the game, although would be strange. Would any of you be willing to share the results of your support interactions with GoG?

Also could you guys try uninstalling and then reinstalling the game from the GoG website?
Open the command prompt and type:

sc delete GalaxyClientService
sc delete GalaxyCommunication

That should work. If it doesn't, you might have to install Galaxy and then uninstall it with the above steps. Hopefully that's not the case.

Windows should uninstall these with the rest of Galaxy but sometimes it doesn't for whatever reason. That was the explanation of what happened when I contacted support.

Is the anti-virus program blockings been thought of?
I see the game wants to make an internet connection when launched...
the anti-virus thing I had asked me if it can be trusted, otherwise the game wouldn't load...
just a thought
I was only able to get the game to load after installing and uninstalling Galaxy. But I still wish there was a version of the game that didn't have this Galaxy-detection bug. Also, my firewall keeps telling me the game needs access to the internet and the game won't load without it. But since Necrodancer has a singleplayer mode, I don't see why it needs to go online in the first place.

I'm sorry for your frustration. I'm not sure why you had the Galaxy issue. I have verified multiple times that Windows version of the game installs and loads properly without Galaxy.

The game is looking for a connection to access daily challenges, achievements, and leader boards.

Game works fine without Galaxy or online access. Leader boards do require internet to work.
