Well, I haven't got very far. I cleared out a control room next to a computer terminal where it's possible to take control of a robot – the only time I've seen this. I've interacted with everything I could think of, but I don't see how to progress. One terminal gave me the code to open a safe, but I don't see the safe. There are a couple of teleports that I don't see how to operate. Help.

It's been a few weeks since I played this game, so my memory's a little fuzzy. However, I seem to remember having a similar problem. First, make sure the alarm is off. I don't know if this actually affects the opening of the safe, but I remember I couldn't open when the alarm was on. Then, go into the room northeast of the room with the robot in it (when you first entered the robot room, you should have come from the south east). This room should have all kinds of computer equipment in it. In the northernmost corner of this room, you should see a safe on the wall. Now, here is where my memory is especially fuzzy. I think you might have to interact with the computer to the left of the safe. If not, try interacting with the safe itself, or maybe a keypad near it.

Sorry if that's vague, or the wrong area.
The view is isometric, so we have a northwestern and a northeastern wall. Which do you mean, and where exactly on the wall? On the northeastern wall is a keypad, but using it achieves nothing. I don't see a safe. There's no alarm going.

You're right, sorry. By norther I simply meant toward the top of the screen, but to clarify, I've attached a screenshot. It shows the northernmost corner of the room. The circular thing on the northeastern wall is the safe. I circled the keypad in red. You should just be able to type in the number you got and the safe will open, giving you the keycard automatically.

I wondered if the thing with the circle on it was a safe but dismissed the idea. Heavens. I tried the keypad, with no joy. Pressing “S” gets me a cursor thingy on the keypad. I then either enter 427 or press <enter> before entering 427, but neither worked. What should I be doing?

Well, the number you are entering might be the problem. The number I got was 962 (the computer on the northwestern corner, just to the left of the safe, has the number). I don't know if it is different for each game, but it wouldn't hurt to try. By the way, after you press "S," do you press "enter" and then an image of a keypad comes up? It should look like the attached picture. If it doesn't come up, again check to see if the alarm is off (there is a camera on the northeastern wall a little further down that I missed at first), because after a quick test, I discovered that for whatever reason, the keypad won't come up if the alarm is on. You can still select it with "S," but "enter" won't do anything. If it still won't work, I must say I'm stumped.

No keypad comes up. I think, actually, the alarm is going – I get announcements saying, “Security has been breached” and things like that, and the “ALERT” sign is flashing. Are you saying I have to deactivate a camera? I can't see anything that looks like a camera. Could you manage another screenshot?

The circled bit in the first attached screenshot is a camera (though it'll look a little different for you because the one in my screenshot is destroyed). All you need to do is shoot it. However, that will only prevent it from seeing you and activating the alarm. To turn the alarm off, you need to use an alarm panel, which is the circled part in the second attached screenshot.

I'm certainly getting somewhere. Many thanks for your input. I destroy the camera, I switch off the alarm, and then I enter the passcode. This makes the safe open and then shut again. How do I actually get what's in the safe? Pressing "S" and <enter> lots and lots isn't working.

The item is added to your inventory automatically. When the safe opens, look in the upper left corner of the screen. It should briefly show a passcard or keycard (just like when you pick up ammo or other items).

Nearly there. Now I have the keycard, what do I do with it? There's one locked door that stays locked and one force shield that remains operational.

The force shield is what the keycard is for; not sure about the locked door. To deactivate the force shield, look for a little panel right next to the force shield. If I remember correctly, it is mostly blue and has a downward-pointing arrow on it. Just use the panel (the keycard should be applied automatically) to deactivate the force shield.
I see the panel with the blue triangle on it, but when I use it, I get a message that begins, “access denied.” But I think I have the keycard – I did the business with the safe and there's something in my inventory that's a rectangle on its side with a red square at the top right-hand corner. I did some googling and there's no cheat code for this situation. Any suggestions?

Hm. I just checked, and after opening the safe and getting the keycard, I was able to use the panel like I would use any other panel and it immediately deactivated the force shield. If that isn't working for you and you already opened the safe, I can only assume it is a bug. The only other suggestion I can think to make is to just restart the game and try again. At least you won't have to play that much to get back to where you are.
I'll play around with it a little more, but I think I'm going to have to re-start. Thanks again for your informative contributions.
