Gremmi: I've sorted it - it is patched to the latest version, but you need to select the joystick in the install.exe file. The easiest way to get to this without too much faffing around is to edit the dosboxcrusader.conf file in the install directory, and right at the bottom change crusader.exe to install.exe, then launch Crusader from the GOG shortcut. Then change the control method, then edit the .conf file back to crusader.exe.

I had to do it this way, as the install.exe doesn't seem to like running outside of DOSBox.
This works! Unfortunately, it causes my game to stutter a little bit. Also I find that the gamepad controls aren't nearly as good as I thought they might be. I guess I'll just tough it out on my keyboard like I did 13 years ago. Thanks for your help though!

I am currently playing this on a laptop, the controls are a nightmare...Gives a nice challange in No Remorce difficulty XD

You can always get an external KB for games. That's what I do...

Going for a LC run now, since I think it is the most lore friendly difficulty level in the game :)

My function keys have stopped working so I am unable to do the quick save/quick load and enter the menu. Can anyone help me with this. They had been working fine. Thanks.

Improved Control Method

I have found that playing this game with a Microsoft Sidewinder game pad makes it absolutely brilliant. I have found a way of using all ten buttons. You actually need to make sure the game is set to keyboard controls and then exit the game and download and run a program called Joytokey which enables you to map the game's keyboard commands onto your joypad. Joytokey must be running at all time the game is running if the joypad is to be useable.
It allows you to roll easily (ctrl and d pad direction) and quick turn (shift and d pad direction), and quickly pick up items (A and B buttons). Give it a try and tell me if it worked for you as well! It makes the game so much more enjoyable, although you still have to lean forward occasionally to use the keyboard.
