First i had to open user.cfg, and set FullScreen to 1 that fixed the error that would tell me to run the program in high color.
secondly i had to edit the cos file, somthing i did in my c3 days of old. i deleted zzzz_gamestart_login and replaced it with one i had coppied and edited, i did this because the servers would not allow me to register. so i removed the starting part where it would require you to 1. have a name to log in, and 2. log into the server.
if you need to edit the file you can do so by
1. coppying it
2. finding in the begging of the file where it says "cmrt 0"
3. deleting everything after that point.
edit, sorry i forgot to tell you where you can find these files.
you can find user.cfg in the "gog.com/creatures exodus/docking station" file
you can likewise find the zzzz_gamestart_login in
"gog.com/creatures exodus/docking station/bootstrap/010 docking station"
Nice work. I've spent years changing my screen to high colour every time I wanted to play it.
You can still register at: http://www.gamewaredevelopment.co.uk/ds/active/register.pl
So you don't have to delete the login screen (which only shows up one time) and you can use more features. Also, most components rely on this login system and deleting this will result in errors. When you want to bypass the login you can use C12DS which comes with a login disabler. ;)

See, these are exactly the kinds of threads that should be in the support section.
A little update: because of a server movement, the current domaim is gamewaredevelopment.com.
The registration page on http://www.gamewaredevelopment.com/ds/active/register.pl works as usual.
