I'm able to start and play the game, but whenever I click the 'Continue' button after completing a campaign mission to progress to the next one, the game pretty regularly crashes, although it does occasionally continue without issue. I'm on Windows 10 64bit, but have not had any success running the game as an administrator or playing with the various compatibility modes. Has anyone else run into this issue? If so, any luck finding a fix?

I have the exact same issue: After a battle in an operation or campaign, I click 'Continue' and the game immediately crashes. Also have Win 10 64bit. Nvidia GTX 570. I have not tried any compatibility mode or other options yet.

**UPDATE: I set the CC2 shortcut to use Windows XP SP3 compatibility. So far I've been able to click 'Continue' twice without a CTD.

Not having any luck with the compatibility change, but also using windows 10. Appreciate the try though :(

Anyone else find a solution?
Win 8.1 64bit had the same problem but using a shortcut, running as admin and compatability mode XP SP3 has fixed it so far.
Customer support helped me with a solution that fixed it. (At least the first mission, which I've now beaten 12x in a row trying to troubleshoot this.)

After you complete a mission, select "Save Campaign As..." in the "Victory Screen." The game does not crash, and I'm able to move to the next mission, albeit with an extra save file.
It seems when I surrender to quickly test things, I do not crash. However, if I actually play the mission out, I crash 90% of the time. Launching with compatability mode hasn't worked. I've tried the save campaign trick but it crashed when playing the grand campaign (I but worked when I was playing an operation?) I need to do more testing but it takes so long to properly play a match and disheartening when its just lost.
Doesn't look good, probably going to have to refund this if a fix isn't released...
I just tried this with the original Microsoft retail version on my Windows 10 64-bit machine and it has the same CTD behaviour at the end of a campaign mission that others are experiencing with the GOG version. So, it doesn't seem to be a GOG version specific issue. I'm quite sure that I didn't see this happen when I played the game years ago when I was on Windows 7 64-bit.
I'm having the same issue and it is very frustrating... my top of the line alienware somehow cant handle a game from the 90's... Have tried all the tips in here, like having another game in the background, different compatability settings and admin mode, all with no luck. Like another poster, I can advance missions if I quickly retreat, but once I actually play the full battle I then get a ctd when I try and continue. Frustrating that I also cannot save after each battle to capture the progress I am making... Not sure what to do now, but without a resolution will just have to get a refund. Anyone know if this ctd issue is just for CC2 or is it happening for all titles? I bought all the other close combats on sale...

I've tried CC3 on GOG and did not have any issues with crashes. I did speak too soon, as I played a game to completion, did the save campaign trick, and it still crashed without saving my progress. Tried again, surrended this time instead of completely destroying the enemy, and it worked. Who knows! Frustrating playing a mission for quite some time, just to lose all progress.
I'm having the same issues as well :(

That did not work, the game tells me that it will autosave as soon as I leave the debriefing screen. When doing that it crashes without saving.
The game crashes for me too.
I did a little more testing and it was working when I pressed save campaign and it worked a few times, but it still would crash if I didn't. I'd rather not lose hours of progress if I miss pressing the save button. I dont think its acceptable and returned it.

Got CC3 instead. While it isn't CC2, it isn't crashing between the campaign missions (still can't alt tab but I can live with that).
I completed a lot of testing with my Microsoft retail version of CC2 and couldn't find find ANY combination of compatibility settings that would prevent the CTD (running under Windows 10 64-bit). This game was working fine for me under Windows 7 64-bit using Windows XP SP3 compatibility settings so I'm wondering if the problem is exclusive to Windows 10.

BEWARE - I found that when the game didn't crash between mission it would instead crash part way through one of the later missions. So, the CTD is not just an end of mission problem.

I'm now looking into running CC2 using a virtual machine running Windows XP.

I had some good luck getting it to run on an XP SP3 virtual machine, however the Gog installation failed. Here is how to work around that:
1. Get Virtuabox and install XP SP3; it's a fairly old game so single core, 512MB Ram, 10GB hdd is plenty.
2. Make an ISO image from the _cd folder in the CC2 installation on your host machine
3. Mount and install from this image

Virtuabox supports scaling mode which is a bit nicer than the registry resolution hack. Seems to run very stable and no problems between campaign missions either. I also noticed that the speed setting of the game now actually works, whereas it didn't do anything in the GOG version.

I've also tried it with ReactOs, to see whether there's a true free alternative but it fails first during installation of DirectShow and then when the game is launched. TBH, I think GOG dropped the ball with this one, CC2 is clearly not Win10 compatible.

I initially tried VirtualBox but found that the sound was crackling. If this does occur then, from what I read, this is a known issue that has no current resolution. So, I then tried it using VMWare Workstation 14 Player (this is free) and it worked perfectly without any sound issues.

As with zrg, I installed Windows XP SP3, with a single core, 512MB Ram and 10GB HDD. Installation and setup was a breeze.

I certainly agree with zrg that CC2 is NOT Windows 10 compatible.
