Hi folks,

I seem to have run into a rather strange/annoying bug - just after getting back from the island of standing stones, I head to the manor courtyard and apparently I'm supposed to head up to the gate and trigger a cutscene where a gardener unlocks it. Well, I've rubbed myself over every inch of that fence so thoroughly that we're probably legally married in some countries, but the damn gardener just won't show up, meaning that I can't progress in the game. I tried reloading from an earlier save and working my way back there - same thing.

Anyone encountered this? Any ideas?

Tried a bunch more stuff, couldn't get it to work, so I eventually just used the "Astral" cheat to phase through the gate. Hopefully that won't screw up any scripted events down the line.
Had exactly the same issue, but with "astral" I couldn't get the sequence to continue after phasing through the gate.

"flight" let me get over the gated wall with no difficulty, though, and the game continued from there once I was back on the ground.
The same problem: cutscene won't trigger.
The "astral" didn't help, but the "flight" got me thru!
Thanks Azilut for the topic, and PsiPiper for the solution!

Detailed steps, to progress further:
1. press TAB, type in 'flight'. (now when holding space, you will jump much higher)
2. optional: fly on the fence and then on the roof (above the gate) and take the Journal entry ("Lighthouse Keeper").
3. fly past the fence.
4. press TAB, type in 'flight' again, to disable the cheat.
5. continue as normal...

Encountered another potentially game breaking issue:

In the area of Mansions Inner Courtyard (Aaron Study behind the stables) You are supposed to jump and climb into a window.

But before I had the chance to figured that out: I explored the area and went throw a gates into another courtyard area with loading screen (the gate supposed to bee locked, and unlocked once you have the key from Aaron Study).
I couldn't go back (if previous save is lost You are doomed)!

The game is really buggy and You can't really tell if its a bug or You just haven't figured out the right path (almost unplayable at times).

Hilarious unintended game design, that ruined my experience of the game.
I strongly recommend to SAVE at each location and expect the worst :D If You are brave enough... that is ...

I wonder if it's only lucky me?

Playing the game atm and had exactly the same bug. Seems it's very common:
Note that there is a well-known bug that can occur here (it doesn't always happen). When you approach the gate, a gardener is supposed to appear on the other side and open it for you. For some reasons, he fails to show up a lot of the time.

Applied the steps suggested above in t0nkada's post but with an important difference:
1. press TAB, type in 'flight'.
2. fly on the fence and then fly again on the higher roof (above the gate) and take the Journal entry ("Lighthouse Keeper").
3. fly past the fence.
4. press TAB, type in 'flight' again, to disable the cheat.
5. continue as normal...
Step 2 is necessary because this way you won't have an unresolved entry in your Journal ("talk again with the groundskeeper" or something like that) which, if unresolved, can potentially cause problems and/or bugs later in the game.

This is the second bug that I encountered (at this stage of the game!) with this game, the previous one being https://www.gog.com/forum/clive_barkers_undying/undying_kills_me_off_at_atrium
I'm near the end of the game, and haven't had any problems what so ever, perhaps your save files are corrupt?. I play the game in Direct3D, not Glide.

DrowWarrior: perhaps your save files are corrupt?
It's a well known, documented, happened to a lot of people bug. It has nothing to do with save files (which are fine, not corrupted).

Fair enough, I just completed the game the other day on Nightmare with zero issues...now, onto Rune Gold. :D

By the way, I'm using Windows Vista 32-bit to play the game, maybe that's why I have no problems.

Encountered both bugs that t0nkada described, the first one got solved by reloading from the last saved checkpoint, and the second one, when the portal was opened, I don't know if it didn't trigger the door leading to it, or if it simply didn't appear, in any case I had to find another way out so I jumped to the stables window. Once I realized that something was off I reloaded the checkpoint, saw the door leading to the scroll that opened the portal closed so I assumed it was then working fine. Also recommend to save often, use at least 5 save slots, overwrite them sequentially and it's unlikely you'll experience many difficulties trying to make it work, but it's a shame that I had to die many more times by my own hand than by the monsters that should be the ones I fear, and not those damned sucking insects.
Just encountered the problem described above.
After visiting the Standing Stones Isle for first time, upon return to the Manor's courtyard, I could not get the gate (to the lighthouse) opened.
Eventually I reloaded an old save (before exiting the Manor, to have the first gate opened in order to visit the Standing Stones isle) and problem solved.

I haven't tried the solutions described above, but thanks a lot for sharing them.
Mobutu's post (6th one in this thread) is probably the best if reloading a previous save won't work.
Nice game so far btw.

Guys,

you won't believe it. In order to start this cutscene you need to get closer to the main gate. Like, literally run into it. This will start the cutscene :)

have fun!
