Well, this is not actually for "Celtic Kings". lol
So you can ask, why the **** did I post it here. I found this work around when messing with Imperium III, the third game in the series. And we can easily see that they use the same engine, so let hope that it should work for Celtic Kings as well.
Another reason I post it here is that GoG is one of the most "official" forum for the series I can found.
So here is how it work:
- download the jpg file, edit it to .ini (if my upload violate the forum rules, please let me know)
- back up your config.ini file (important, or you will need to reinstall)
- copy the new file to your celtics king folder
- edit resolution in settings.ini (not config.ini) 1 or 2 or 3 (depend on your machine)
- check if the game run normally (as I'm unable to check).
Please do not blame me for the obvious "extreme" differences between two config.ini, It was another story about "Rising Kingdoms" - another game of Haemimont.
Thanks for your attention

There is no settings.ini in the Celtic Kings folder. What does 1 or 2 or 3 mean?
How can I download config.jpg? THX

Right-click on the link "config.jpg" (at the bottom of the original post, just after "Attachments"), and select "save target of the link under..." in your menu :)

Let's hope this works since my monitor doesn't have the highest resolution setting (aka it's too rectangular to be a square, so i don't have the ability to use 1200 as Y. Which means the closest resolution for me is 1680x1050)
Opening the data.pak file with notepad and editing it, makes my game unable to run as soon as i edit that file. So that's not a solution either.

Editing the data.pak file like Jqt is indeed guarantee better chance compare to my method (be caused I don't know the file structure and options that actually included in celtic kings ini).
I luckily get an unencrypted version of ini file from another haeminont game and with some modification It worked with Imperivm III (CK is Imperivm I) but I don't really know wether or not it work with CK and Nemesis.
Jqt method (editing data.pak) has 2 drawback, I think:
- Unable to disable intro
- Editing should be done by hex editor, using text editor seem cause problems like yours.
Also, I suggest, just keep 1 default res (1024x768) and change all other to the one you desire.
Some one talented may help us decrypt the ini file???
You may also try to set compatibility mode to Win98 (I found this in an older thread of this forum). This doesn't give you a true widescreen resolution, but it enables scaling to full-screen size (without a compatibility setting or in XP mode the game window is a very small rectangle).

Hello! :)

Sorry for the offtopic, but I could not send you a message, because of your profile settings.
Can you share with us if there is a way to make Rising Kingdoms playable in 1920x1080?

After I red some of your posts I got inspired to make my old Haemmimont games playable again.
- Tzar is not possible
- GBR there is a fan made mod that fixes some things, adds more things and the most importand thing for me, makes the game to run in 1920x1080
- Rising Kingdoms...?

:)
