Ok, like a few people here, I'm having trouble with changing the size of my screen. I can shrink it with '-' but can't use +/= (the key next to backspace) to enlarge it again.

I can get around this by playing in hardware mode, but hardware mode is pretty laggy for some reason, it'd be best if I can fix this so I can use the window's patch.

I tried reinstalling the game twice to reset my screensize, however, my game setting have somehow persisted through both reinstalls, despite my making sure all game folders have been deleted.

Finally. i have noticed a file in carmageddons data folder called OPTIONS.txt, that has most game options, screen size included in plain text. In theory, editing this should fix the problem, but the game seems to ignore all of my edits.

Can anyone help?

for reference, I'm running on Windows Vista, 32 bit.

What are your system specs?
Did you try out "Win95 patch" found in sticky post?

There's also GOG Team comment like this (when using the patch):
"You can set whatever resolution you want by editing ddraw.ini file."

These helped with my game.
I am using an AMD Phenom 9600 quad core, 2.30ghz With 3GB RAM

My video card is an ATI Radeon HD 5770

I have the Win95 patch installed.

Editing the height and width values of ddraw.ini seems to have no effect on the game.

Ok, with a little poking around I managed to fix it. Here's what I did:

1. Open the OPTION.TXT file in notepad, it should be found under CARMA/DATA wherever you installed the game.
2. Find the line that says 'ScreenSize #' where # is a number.
3. change that number to 0 and save the file.
4. Run carmageddon, using either the normal or windows shortcut, but make sure to run the file as an admin.

That seems to work around the issue, I've got Carmageddon Running full screen.

I also haven't tested, but I'm betting the same steps should work for the splat pack, just need to edit the OPTIONS.TXT under CARSPLAT/DATA

Well, as you are running Vista as your OS I would say you have installed into the default Program Files folder and that is why you are experiencing this. The Program Files folder is a protected folder under Vista and later OSes, so the files in there do not like being changed after the installation is completed. You will probably find that the game settings are being saved somewhere in your User folder, under AppData or somewhere. So when you re-installed it just read these same settings files from your User folder rather than the ones within the game folder. This would also explain why your edits were ignored and why when you run as administrator it works fine (as that overrides the protection).

I'd advise installing games outside of Program Files, into your own folder such as C:\Games\... and seeing how that works.
Yeah, I figured it was something like that. I'll keep that in mind if I ever need to reinstall. Right now my own workaround seems to have things under control and I don't want to jinx things now by tinkering any further. =/
Was having the same problem and korell's tip led me to solve the problem...

Vista keep a version of the OPTIONS.TXT inside Users folder...

in my case it was the folder C:\Users\%MYUSERNAME%\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Carmageddon\CARMA\DATA

Just deleted the file above and edited the one inside the original C:/Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Carmageddon\CARMA\DATA

The problem was fixed once and for all!... Don't need to run as admin no more...

Thanks people!

Hey

My screen turns black after DOS BOX. Then i press Ctrl-Alt-Del ---> Task manager. When task manager is open i can see SDL running the game. But the solution has changed to 600x400. I change it back to 1366x768 and now the game is runing in this smal SDL box.

Is there a way to run it in full screen?

My OS is win 7 64 bit home premium

And also, it would be great that the screen dosent turn black after launch :)

Kharne: I'm getting the same problem, but in reverse. I'm trying to run the game in hardware mode but the game keeps on popping up in a window with no way to maximize the screen size. Will the same solution work to solve this.

Will this work for games like Leisure Suit Larry 7 Love for Sail? because I want to keep my screen size smaller than it just filling up my entire screen with no way of minimizing it
