Mwyann: I had this problem too, until I updated my graphics drivers: AMD 13-9_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql did the trick. Not sure if it's really the drivers, but I only did that and rebooted my computer since then, so I suppose it was my problem.
Won't help me. I don't have AMD.

Edit: Got another response. Added the info to my previous post.

Edit 2: Yet another failed solution. Pasted the info to my previous post, again.

I got the same response as you got on your second try, didn't work for me either. And I'm running Nvidia card with the newest drivers already :(
Well they finally gave up and offered me a trade.. but I have hope this little nasty bug will be squashed sooner or later.

Edit: Out of desperation, and with a bit of thinking, I already had nglide installed on my computer. I thought it might interfere with the GOG stuff, so I uninstalled it, uninstalled carmageddon 2, registry cleaned, rebooted, reinstalled carmageddon 2 as administrator, and still it crashes. I fiddled around with the carma2.exe launcher, tried all three options, even the bloody SW exe crashes. I give up on this. I have no idea what to do about it from here. Here's hoping someone finds out what the problem is and tells GOG about it.

I'm in completely the same situation. I don't want my $9.99 back, I just want a working Carmageddon 2, so I think I'll hang back here and hope that they'll get it fixed eventually.
At this point, it is basically a faulty and broken product, and shouldn't be available to buy, as many of us have the same problem with different configurations.

A shame. I loved Carmageddon 2..
If you have Spybot Search & Destroy on your computer, that might be causing the problem. I know that's what was causing it for me. Uninstall it completely, reboot, then clean out your registry. Just to be safe, you may also wish to uninstall the game before cleaning the registry, then reinstalling it.

SilentMage: I just installed C2 on my computer this morning, but whenever I attempt to load it, the program crashes before doing anything. The message in the subject above pops up twice in a row and that's it. I was really REALLY looking forward to playing this after so many years, so any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated!

PC Specs are attached.
A tutorial video i did to fix the problem.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LgVLLpbseUo

Not sure if it works with GOG version as i personally own the original CD Rom copy of the game.

The GOG version is already patched, has the mouse fix applied and uses nGlide, so I think it does the same as all of your fixes. Plus, it has the music (CD tracks) as OGG files, so they work too.
Update on this:

I installed the latest version and it works fine.
Strange thing is, it didn't notify me the game was updated at all, so I thought it wouldn't work.

After all these months I would've hoped this was resolved, but alas, it hasn't. =(

SilentMage:
Have you tried installing the latest nGlide and removing/renaming the glide.dll and glide2x.dll in the Carmageddon 2 directory?
I'm assuming GOG's version of Carmageddon 2 is using an older build of nGlide which isn't compatible with the latest Nvidia cards/drivers.
Hello there people if mostly ran Carma 2 the cd version and used a patch called the superpatch found at moddb.com wich fixed issues with the game running ..

I tried running Carmageddon 2 GOG on Nvidia GTX 780ti with new drivers. it still works...hmm..
Hello Everyone,

I recently joined GOG and I just bought Carma2 on sale.
I am facing the same issue

I am running WIN8.1 64B, with I7 & GTX 980

I have tried compatability options, direct x and glide... running as admin. and I can't get past this error.

So how do yo request a refund?

Cheers.

Just delete or move to other place wsock32.dll in the game folder. This fixed for me occasional crashes, executable not responding.
