So the original and Gunslinger started just fine after install, but Bound by Blood kept giving me nothing but black screen.

After much searching, the problem seems to be Multi-monitors and different systems in the rendering engine not recognizing which monitor to render too. The fix is easy.

You need to edit the video settings file and force BoB to render to the primary monitor.

Edit the file "Video.scr" found in the directory "\Documents\Call of Juarez - Bound in Blood\Out\Settings"

The top half of this file is commented out (the "!" is used to disable the line it's in front of) and the actual settings are after the first blank line on the bottom half. The line of interest is "Monitor(0)" on or around linee 28 of the file. When I modified that to read "Monitor(-1)" to force primary monitor that fixed the issue and the game started correctly.

A few other things to try if you're having problems:
- Run in Vista SP2 compatibility mode
- Disable Visual Themes and Desktop Composition
- Enable VSync by adding "VSync()" to the bottom of the Video.scr file mentioned above

One last note:
I noticed that after successfully starting the game one time "Video.scr" will default back to Monitor(0), but the game will continue to start and play correctly. No idea why and as long as everything keeps working, don't really care.

Hope this helps.
I face also a black screen (Actually a crash, since the programme does not answer).

I lack the Video.scr-file and created it manually with the named value. No changes.

In my case, it is not just a crash. Occasionally my programmes in my mainmonitor wander to the right monitor during that and the once there (including the taskmanager) disappear into Nirvana.

To configure the compatibility mode with Windows 7 or 8:

# 1 - Find the executable file "CoJBiBGame_x86.exe"

Example if you have the Steam version of the game:

"C: \ Program Files (x86) \ Steam \ SteamApps \ common \ Call of Juarez - Bound in Blood \ CoJBiBGame_x86.exe"

# 2 - Set the compatibility mode for Windows XP SP3 by following these instructions

- Click the right mouse button on "CoJBiBGame_x86.exe"
- Click on Properties
- Click the "Compatibility" tab
- Select "Windows XP SP3" + "Disable visual themes" + "Disable desktop composition"
- Click "OK"
Just changing the compatibility seemed to have no effect. I did all and was able to enter the menu.

Hi guys. I'm getting a black screen on startup too, but the above-mentioned fixes aren't working for me. However I can get past the startup black screen by pressing the Escape key.

However there's a bigger issue for me. I get a black screen anywhere within gameplay ... the only place where I can actually see what I'm doing is in the main menu. Is anyone else having this issue and knows how to fix it?

I'm not playing with dual monitors, just on a laptop.

Do you have both integrated and discrete videocards there?
Maybe it is an issue when a monitor expects data from one side but it actually comes from another.
You can try this external manual to fix.

Windows 7 64-bit
Compatibility for Vista SP2 + disable visual themes and desktop composition did the trick for me. FMV audio is a little stuttery but that's been the only problem running it.
