It seems that you're using an outdated browser. Some things may not work as they should (or don't work at all).
We suggest you upgrade newer and better browser like: Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Opera

Nightshade: And for an additional datapoint, if you install it through galaxy while not uninstalling the non-Galaxy version, the non-Galaxy version not only works, but continues to work after uninstalling Galaxy. So the latter must be adding something to the system as a whole rather than anything about the Galaxy version in specific.
Found out what is really happening.

GOG did NOT remove the Steam DRM.

( Redirected DRM Client Check )

The downloadable installer will play just fine, as long as GOG Galaxy is installed.
They are just using the Steam Client API's apparently.
No, GOG Galaxy did NOT have to be running in the background. Just installed.

The C++ RT Error is just the game aborting because it could not find ( Steam Client / GOG Galaxy ).

GOG does need to update the web page to show "Required for DRM : GOG Galaxy Installed"
So is this where they start to force Galaxy on people?

No, and whatever the previous poster was experiencing should be fixed by now. The whole point is to NOT force people to have Galaxy installed or require it to be installed in the first place.
sadly it's still not working

not with a fresh download and not with the new patch
at least not on manual download under windows 7
Like I said, whatever it is must be subtle, because I'm not only not running it through Galaxy, I uninstalled Galaxy. So I suspect its something weird and subtle.
I'm realy cursed... new version or patch isn't working either...
the subtlety isn't lost on me

I have the same problem with version 1.05 downloaded via http without using Galaxy. It crashes right back to desktop after starting it with the runtime error.

Btw the Linux version does not work for me also. (Linux Mint 17.2)

Edit:

Windows version:

Ok I do not like Launchers, meaning interfaces to organize/run your games.

1. I did download and installed Galaxy. I did not run it at all.
2 I used my http download of the Breach and Clear DEADline files to install the game.
3. I tried to run the game and it worked.

I noticed a difference while installing Breach and Clear DEADline with Galaxy on the hard disk. During install a dialog appeared saying that the MS Visual C++ 2012 11.0.61.030(x64) Library is initialized. This Library is installed by Galaxy. I guess that is what is missing in the http download.and is the reason that the game still runs when Galaxy is deinstalled as the library remains on the hard disk.

Yes, it "should", but still apllies. Only running the Installer crashes the game with a vb runtime error. Installing Galaxy and logging into your account fixes this, though Galaxy does not need to run. Game is v1.0.5

I was having the same problem.
I went to the 'Breach and Clear - DEADline' folder and manually removed the following files:
Galaxy.dll
Galaxy.lib
GalaxyNative.dll
GalaxyPeer.dll

It now seems to run properly without them present.
I posted a thread some time ago with this fix in it.

Go to the games installed directory.
Delete "Galaxy.dll"
Play Game.

That is the file forcing the install/usage of GOG Galaxy.
( API is "GOG Galaxy Communication" in windows services. )

Forum Post : https://www.gog.com/forum/breach_and_clear_series/how_to_fix_startup_problems_windows
I used to play the game without problems last year (summer?). Now I decided to play again, installed the 1.09 version and... runtime error. And yes, after deleting galaxy.dll, the game runs fine again (I guess I played it before the Galaxy was introduced). Someone at GOG should fix that issue.
Mac OS here, if you will go in and delete plugins file folder the game will run fine.
happy hunting!
