Hello people!

I have recently started playing Boiling Point: Road to Hell and I love many things about it, the different mission objectives, the open start, the faction relations system...

On this last one, I have an issue. I have been attempting to do a few missions to gain early money and reputation in which the main enemy has been the bandits, leading in decrease of reputation with the bandits and mafia (so far, so good). What I don't understand is that some friendly/neutral factions who are not alligned with the bandits or mafia will decide to open fire against me in middle of the firefight against the baddies and sometimes even hours later after I have rested in the car.

I observe this issue mainly with the civilains (but I also noticed a government heli opening fire on me when I was attempting to clear out bandits at a ruin site).

Is there something I am missing? Is this a part of the factions system I am not aware of or is this a bug?

Thank you for your time reading.

I believe civilians and probably the government too will just react to you using firearms when they are nearby.

Thank you for the reply!

Yeah so far that checks out.

What I don't understand is why, considering I am at a positive/neutral reputation with them, I have never harmed them and when I take out a bandit the reputation gains shows a positive gain on both gov and civvies, yet the civvies thank me by shooting me on sight and lobbing grandma's basket of grenades at me.

Is there a certain threshold of reputation I need to hit before a faction no longer attacks me or is this a glitch?

I have no idea, maybe they just do it out of self-defense or fear. Try shooting in the air near civilians, what happens?

Hello again!

Yes, I checked it out and they go hostile whenever you shoot at anything (even just the ground or the air) if they are nearby enough.

The solution seems to be to do one or two missions that require open conflict and then travel away from the town/location for a while and take it as a chance to explore, loot from the random conflicts, sleep in the car or do missions somewhere else.

If you went far enough and/or spent enough time away, the aggroed NPC's should have reset and be neutral/friendly with you again so long as your faction standing is neutral/friendly.

Thank you for spending time discussing this with me and I apologize for my stubborness, I was just confused if it was intended, a bug or something I was missing. I will mark your first reply as the solution as that basically was the gist of how the NPC's behave.
Yeah I can confirm it's a little bit wonky.

Sometimes I can join a faction during one of the gun battles of the road and they wont' turn hostile but other times I'll be fighting some mission characters in the middle of town then some civilians start shooting at me.

If I had to guess, they're scripted to turn hostile if you shoot "for no reason" but the game doesn't always properly check to see if you're fighting someone or just firing randomly.
