Just a thought, have any of you tried to turn the background music off? Not running that one audio stream constantly might just be enough to keep enough resources free to stop the sound effects from distorting.

Turning off the voice audio "fixes" the game for the most part. But their is no reason why this game should be so resource intensive and less reason why its only Miriam's audio that seems to trigger the issue.

It's an Unreal Engine 4 game, and it uses some pretty high quality assets. If turning BGM off doesn't help, I'm not sure what else to try. I can't reproduce this on my end, so the advice I can offer is limited.

From my previous experience with my FX processor, the FX 6300 you have is supposed to be a six core processor, but it has issues. They're horribly ineffecient, especially when games or programs threads jump from core to core. Try setting your Thread Affinity for the game in Task Manager to Cores 0, 2, 4, and 5. This should keep the game from bunching up the game tasks on any given core. It's bee a while since I've used Windows 7, but if I remember right, you just right click on the game in Task Manager and you can set affinities in there.

Funnily enough, you've got the exact same motherboard I used to have.

If you've not updated your AMD chipset drivers, you might try doing that.

https://www.amd.com/en/support/chipsets/amd-9-series-chipsets/970

You probably already have done that, but if not, that may be helpful, since the Microsoft inbox drivers aren't great.

Other than that, the game is certainly not behaving as it should. You're running at 900p with 8GB ram which should be more than fine. Given all the issues the game is having on every platform, I'm not too surprised it's got weird things happening running on lower-spec systems.

I hope some of that helps. It's a great game, if it, you know, decides to work properly.

Thanks for you replay. I'm aware of the shorefalls of the FX 6300 processor so it very well may be the culprit. Not the greatest CPU especally in 2019. Unfortunally the solution you provided changed nothing. Although I'm not entierly certan that its a processor issue because it only seems to be triggered specificly by Miriam's voice alone and others whithout AMD CPU's (I presume) have reported having simmilar problems.

I wish I could help more. I'm just throwing out ideas at this point. Just out of curiousity, do you have a usb headset you can try? If you've got something with a USB dac, see if the problem happens with that. I wonder if perhaps it's a weird audio codec problem.
I have this exact same problem, and looking at the Steam forums, other people do too. I got this game as a gift, I'll check back in a few months if I remember and see if a basic bug like this was fixed. FFS.

They finally fixed the Switch version and now it plays and looks great even thought is lower resolution. Maybe this sound glitch will eventually be fixed on PC. I really am happy with the dedication of Koji Igarashi and his team at 505 games and their virtuous attiude about contructive criticism. Bloodstained is a great game.

Do you perhaps have an AMD FX 6300 like I do? I honestly suspect AMD CPU is likely the issue. They just settled a $12.5 million lawsuit regarding false advertising of the FX series.
I for one got a lot worse performance on 1.09, resulting in frequent stuttering and crackling.

Downgraded to 1.05 and that mostly fixed it for me. There are still spots where it crackles but at least the game runs smoothly most of the time.

From the posts so far, I can see that that might not help everyone but for people who maybe never even played a version before 1.09, I'd recommend to try downgrading.

Overall, at least for me it was all about performance. And today, with the help of fraps, I figured out that shadows are by far the biggest performance hog in the game. I now have all settings on "cinematic" except for shadows - which are "low". And now, even when there are 5 familiars and maybe 6 enemies on the screen at once (which used to make it stutter), it runs smoothly. I can't even increase shadows to "medium", has to be "low".

I have this issue as well , my video card is a Gigabyte Geforce 750 Ti if that helps any.

Can we please get a move on this issue?
Just bumping this thread because this is still an issue a year later. Only circumvent by turning off the voice audio. Not essentially a resource issue because the game runs fine at max setting as long as voice audio is turned off, but also runs awful even at low settings with the audio turned on. And as previously stated it seems to be associated with Miriam's audio in particular. Is there perhaps an Inti Creates forum that would be better suited for this topic?

I doubt Inti Creates would solve anything. Apart from from Inti Creates being against DRM-free practices when it comes to selling PC games they developed besides the few Shantae games on GOG they co-developed, they have little-to-no care when it comes to anything they port on PC. Usually when they port something to PC, Inti Creates puts out a rush-job PC port and call it a day, and I have tried countless times to get in touch with them — through e-mail, talking to them on twitter, Steam forums of their respective games, and even talking to them on their twitch channels on their live chats whenever they do their livestreams to promote whatever crap they announce — and every single time they just ignore me and many others and don't do shit about fixing their games, well not unless it's their creator's pet series Gunvolt but they still do mediocre job of fixing those games on PC and not willing to do any better considering the bootlicking fanbase they have.
Only wanted to say that I'm having these issues too, I'm gonna to try turning voices to 0% but man it's such a bummer having to do that :/
