Title ^^ I played some metroidvania in the past I can't say I like metroivania kind but I can't say I dislike it either ... It depends of the gameplay mechanics/story actually.

I saw some videos of this and it looks fun and I like RPG system but can I really enjoy it or is it just that kind of game for hardcore gamers because everyone I saw talking about it in the reviews or forum looks like they are veteran fan and played previous titles to death xD ...
My opinion: anyone can enjoy this game. It's not for hardcore players, if you're having trouble you can always take things slow and easy, you don't have do rush. The bosses aren't difficult either, they may be tricky at times but once you understand their moves you will be good.
The reason why people say is for 'veterans' is because this game is basically a reimagine Castlevania Symphony of the night. they share many mechanics and you feel like playing an old metroidvania game sometimes, like getting stuck for hours trying to figure out what exactly you haven't done to proceed the game.

i'm not the biggest metroidvania player myself but i finished this game 5 times in a row. i really enjoyed it

edit: i forgot, highly recommend a controller and the story is just ok

Of course! Plus, it's casual-friendly and easier than its predecessor, Sotn (Symphony of the Night)! Or, more "forgiving", at times.

Can a newcomer like this game? YES!!

The game is not hard, although the bosses will seem challenging at first. (personnally I would have preferred hard mode to be unlocked at the start instead of having to complete the game first)

The game is mostly about map exploration and item farming. You have to explore the map to find bosses to kill and get abilities that allow you to explore other areas. Farming for items allows you to craft better weapons and armour as well as strengthening spells.

Aside from exploration there is also a completeion meter (archieves) for those who like to do everything and collect everything in a game as well as new game + (i don't see the point) and harder difficulties for replay value.

There are some bugs and controller use is almost required (I got this on consol after playing on PC just because of controls).

The story is mediocre and in my opinion any RPG elements are non existent. As far as I can tell there are no consequences to your actions (except in 1 battle which triggers the 3 different endings).

This game is well liked by fans on the medriodvania genre because it strongly embodies the genre. I haven't played any of the previous titles (I don't think there are any) but still enjoyed the setting and story (what little there is).

In summary; if you like metriodvania then you will like the game, if you've never played a metriodvania then this is a pretty good introduction to the genre.
Metroidvania is a bad name to descrive some of these games becasue there are 2 very different play elements involved with Original Castlevania and Metriod games with about the only thing being the same is that they are both side scroller action/platform games. Some of them have more Metroid in them than Castlevania and vice versa.

This game is Castlevania when it comes to Game Progression, very little exploration bactracking is mostly optional, weapons are very much rigid with moves & movement being slow and deliberate much like original Castlevania. It does borrlow Metriod components with the Shards systems greatly expanding gameplay combat mechanics with summons, magical moves and enhancements.

In comparison to Syphony of the Night which is what many players were hopping for with this game, it falls very short, with the exceptiong of the Shards where it outshines SOTN.

So if you like Castlevania gameplay more than Metriod you should like this game, but if you like Metriod game play more... like me... then you are only going to see this game as "meh" at best.

So I would recommend that you get the game, but "maybe" wait for it to have a decent discount.

I am a veteran fan who played the previous titles to death. However: I haven't always been a veteran fan, there was a time in my life when I didn't even know what Castlevania was. How did I become a fan? By playing games like this one.

This is a great choice for a first exposure. My biggest criticism of it is that it's a little too similar to previous titles, but if this is your first time then that's not a problem for you, and being similar to other games which are also great is not such a bad thing.

I don't get caught up with graphics normally, but graphics are kind of a big thing in this case: the problem with the previous series was that shortly after Symphony of the Night Konami stopped publishing 2D games for home consoles. So all of the successor games were relegated to handhelds. Bloodstained got the full AAA treatment, and it looks great. (Even though it's being sold as a budget title for some reason. I don't know why they're not charging $60 for this.)

That said, you don't play this game for the story. Don't come into this expecting anything from that, there just isn't very much story here.
The only way you're going to like this game is if you like to have fun when you play videogames.

Beyond the strictly Metroidvania aspects this is basicaly and ARPG in which if you are careful enough with finding secrets, crafting and in the most extreme cases some grinding/farming you can steamroll most of what the game puts in front of you. There are tons of weapons each with its own quirks even if they mostly fit into roughly into relatively few types (like whips, swords, fencing swords, greatswords, etc), tons of spells (gained through the "shards" dropped from enemies), consumables, wearables and other optional stuff that allow to basically find your own style of doing things.

I played SOTN a couple of years ago for the first time.
The only thing that makes SOTN more difficult is that it often doesn't bother to explain how to use some of the compulsory upgrades/moves while in Bloodtstained unless something if facultative it's usually explanied clearly (also the good ending is indeed more difficult to discover, this one's is pretty straightforward in comparison).
Other than that SOTN basically fits the description I have given above minus some gameplay features specific to Bloodstained like shards and crafting.

Yeah. Also, if you are stuck, Dominique (the church-woman NPC who sells items), tells you tips on where to go next. But there are other reasons, as well... In Sotn, straying off a bit from the path of normal progress, can lead you into hard, or upgraded species of enemies, that can easily kill you.... Even in starting areas; such as the heavy guard, outside the double room with fireplace (which also had a secret somewhere in there). Methinks puzzle areas, like clocktower there, with medussa heads, harpies and gears shifting, were also more difficult, overall. Finally, secrets in Sotn, were hard to unveil; like that ghost summoning sword, or the tricks with clock-subweapon (time-stop). Hadn't i used a complete walkthrough, i believe i would have been unable to find, everything there is.

Well I'm out; I only play games that require job-like commitment to grind, insufferably, the same piece of content for days only to aquire a cosmetic skin for an ingame item. Fun in video games went out in 2006.
If you can accept metroidvania story and gameplay then you will accept rotn.
Yes, I've never played a MetroidVania game before & I'm absolutly loving it.
