Jace Hall has posted on The Postmortem that his efforts to revive Blood have been halted By Atari (bastards!).

Dear Blood Community:

I just got an unusually short, one sentence e-mail from Atari, letting me know that given the current set of circumstances, they are choosing to decline to proceed.

Obviously, I am disappointed. Particularly given Atari's continued encouragement along with the amount of time, effort and correspondence that I have put into this venture.

The only thing that can be done at this point is to wait and see what happens with ATARI, and hope that they find themselves in a position and mindset to allow my efforts to continue on this matter at a future date.

Tears and Sadness,
Jace Hall
Sad news, but at least we will still be able to play classic blood thanks to GOG.

God Damn!!!!
Can`t we just gather some money for them???
There are hundreds of BLOOD fans around the world. Lets say that everyone pays 1$. But for sure!!!!
1 fuc*ing $.
I hate such news.
Sad, but not surprising considering Atari filed for bankruptcy last month.

CNN: Atari U.S. files for bankruptcy, but plays on

They are probably just getting everything sorted out while they split back off from Infogrames.
Well, that's kind of sucks but at least both games are on sale here. Still, closest thing to remake or sequel is Death Wish addon campaign just for now.
The best case scenario would be Atari selling the rights to Blood to someone who would be happy to release the source code.

We can only cross our fingers.

That's only if Atari gets rights to it. Infogrames bought GT Interactive (which had the Blood copyright) before they bought Atari. Atari actually sells Blood through it's online store now though, so they may have rights to it... or not, who knows how these things work.
Had Monolith not sold the rights...
Doesn't Jace have the source code himself? If so, wouldn't it be possible to do "Blackbox Reverse Engineering" where he documents how the code works without actually writing down the code and then someone else can reverse engineer the code from that. Lucius has been working on the XLEngine and it was supposed to support Blood, but Blood has been slipping down on the priority list. I understand that Jace cannot just re-release the code, would black-box reverse engineering be possible?

Yes, could be possible

Saddest news I've heard in a long time...
