After buying Blood 2 I spent sort of a minimal amount of time making sure it ran fine on Windows 10 and on the correct monitor and whatever--everything seemed fine at the time, a few months ago. I recently came back to it (Aug 2019) and while the game itself runs once I try to start the game and get to the "press any key to continue" point after loading any 3D part, the game 100% hard locks up, dominates the monitor it's on (can't alt tab to things behind it without moving them onto other monitor), and has to be shut down from task manager.

The only thing about my setup that I can possibly think changed is I applied what seemed like a semi big deal Windows 10 update around early August/end of July. Can anyone else on Windows 10 run Blood 2 right now?

Not my same problem, but similar. I left Blood 2 working fine for a while and when I recently came back to it the game wouldn't start anymore. It doesn't show movies nor anything else but a black square in the middle of the screen. The game is working fine as I can hear the audio and key interactions does seem to work, but the whole graphics is fucked up.

The problem is entirely in the Voodoo wrapper though, as if I remove that the game works "fine" (if the standard condition it comes can be associated with the concept of "fine").

Curiosly enough, Shogo (which uses the exact same engine and fixes) still works fine.

EDIT: It seems I managed to solve the problem by ticking "Disable Fullscreen Optimizations" in CLIENT.exe settings. It corrupted all my savedata though. I don't know how, but that's how it is...

Thank you, this did the trick for me.
I can't get it to run at all on Windows 10. Any secrets on getting it too work?

FYI the widescreen patch is not needed if you don't want it. However the Res one and dgVoodoo is.

Yes, I know. Honestly, the whole thing is optional if you don't mind running it in software mode.

Aside from the Res patch. As under 10 without that the game will not run at all.

Yes it does run without the Res patch, just not well.

I was being sarcastic when I said you can run in software mode because I figured no one would really want to do that anyway. The last time I ran Blood 2, with soft.ren, was some time under Win10-1607 to be honest. It ran fine then. That was a while ago, so a bit of due diligence is in order.

Installing on Win10-1903
After installing Blood2, I clicked the [Display...] button on the launch window and selected "Renders LithTech Software Render (soft.ren)" and my native laptop resolution, which has an Intel HD 5500 graphic chip.

The menu was a little distorted and off center, but it let me run the game. The trouble I did run into with soft.ren (which may not be limited to soft.ren), is that the mouse-look seems to be fuxored and just spins Caleb in circles while looking at the floor, but I was able to play through the first level after setting up keyboard only controls.

Closing out of the game and attempting to reset the display settings the launch window complained about DirectX 6 not being installed, but it still launched into the game and I could play around with the display settings from the Display menu option in-game.
I can't get this game to run on Windows 10 too. Shogo - Mobile Armor Division works absolutely fine with dgVoodoo but Blood II refuses to work. All I get is a small black window and the audio from the intro movies that play before the main menu. I know that the game worked 100% with the same setup on Windows 7. Looks like the "cancer for gaming" caught another victim.

Turn off Fullscreen Optimalizations in Blood2.exe properties > compatibility tab.
Also, set compatibility mode to Windows 7,
and play in 640x480.

It works for me on Windows 10 :)

I found an easier way to make it work on my end. All I had to do was uninstall the compatibility mode (ForceSimpleWindow) that was active after installing the game through the offline installer. Once it was removed using dgVoodoo was not a problem anymore.
I'm trying this again and nothing in the thread is working but I see on a vogons topic another mention of uninstalling this ForceSimpleWindow thing, how are you uninstalling this? They mention in the thread it's called "GOG.com Blood 2" but the only thing I have in my installed programs list is "Blood II - The Chosen + Nightmares" which seems to refer to the actual game. I'm installing Blood II through gog galaxy.

EDIT: Okay I actually got it working finally, I've tried everything on previous installs but apparently not in the right combination, here's the process I went through to get it working. See solution post for links to stuff.

1. Set up dgVoodoo and select dgVoodoo DirectX wrapper in Blood2.exe display options - game loading in a small black square in the center of the screen.

2. Right click properties for Client.exe, under Compatibility: Disable Fullscreen Optimizations - game now plays intro fullscreen and can move in menus but locks up before getting to loading screens.

3. Install Blood 2 Res Patch (make sure Disable Fullscreen Optimizations is still checked as it is a client.exe replacement) - game now seems to run fine at 1920x1080. Not gonna bother with widescreen patch as I'm afraid to touch anything else.

Didn't end up doing anything with or even finding ForceSimpleWindow.
