I loved this game when it came out on PS1 (yes, I'm old). I noticed a few things that may help people that are either brand-new to this game, or played it on PS1 and forgot a few things.

1. To save, pick you save location then use the activate-magic button to confirm the save.

2. Sometimes when standing on a red-triangle-plot-marker, you may see the bat symbol in the upper-right corner of the screen. That means you have unlocked a new location to fly to as a bat (e.g. Malek's fortress).

3. In bat form, you need to use the "eagle eye button" (however it's mapped) to confirm your choice of where to fly. this is especially important when you get a cut scene showing a fortress in the distance and you want to fly directly there.

4. When fighting Malek in his keep, you must not only use the sword to fight him, but you need to use the 4-hit combo (the red eyes in the upper right corner glow red and Kain cackles) for your hits to even count! You need to knock him down a number of times before he runs to the top of the screen and starts a mega-move that _will_ kill you. Stop fighting him, go to the lower-right corner of the screen to escape.

5. After you finish up with the boss fight at Dark Eden and have spoken to Ariel at the pillars, the next step is to use bat form to fly BACK to Dark Eden and enter the cave on the far-east/right side of the map -- the door blocking the way through with the save point is open now.

Jesus Christ, this was driving me insane. I couldn't figure out why I couldn't hurt him, but I didn't even know I had a "combo". The manual mentions absolutely nothing about this. Anyway, thanks, I was about to quit and I actually really liked the game up to that stupid part.
