Hi Guys,

are you still working on it, to get this great Game back on GOG.com?

I want it in my collection! :-)

Greets,
humburak
Damn it! I knew I should have bought it when I saw it. So many hours wonderfully wasted on that game in my youth...I hope it returns soon!

G-Doc: The actual reason for us not posting this sort of things more openly is usually that we receive the news so late, that it gives us time to remove the game from sales "effective yesterday" :-( It's not fair to anyone, agreed, but sometimes things like this get overlooked by Publishers.

I'm really sorry about this, as GOG.com as well as personally, as this is one of my favorite classics around here and I had some plans for making a Twitch series out of it. That would've been fun!

Now, we can only hope we'll manage to get it back promptly. As far as I know this isn't some terrible legal mess as in some cases, so things aren't that bad.
I simply ask myself what is going on at those publishers offices:
Last day they look up in there calendar and scream "Oh my god, we´ll loose distribution rights! We´ll loose distribution rights!"?! I´m not sure I can imagine, but it has to be something that chaotic, am I wrong?
So who holds the distribution rights now?

Hopefully, they have returned to the developer of the game and we'll be able to work with them directly. That wouldn't be the first case.

Luckily for myself I got my copy before it happened. Didn't hear about removal however. Is there any sticky about possible upcoming removals I could subscribe and get my last chance? It'd be great if there was one.

edit:
I've already found Warning when a game is about to be removed from the system wish. I'll wait with hope no more games will be removed from the store. All the best and Happy New Year!

I've got myself a copy of the game from GoG as well. I just was talking to a friend of mine that this is the game that inspired DarkSouls to be created and I was recommending him to buy it and then when I searched for it ... gone. Good thing I've got a copy. :)

G-Doc: I'm very sorry for the late notice, but we've just received word from Codemasters that we need to remove <span class="bold">Blade of Darkness</span> from sales on GOG.com, as they no longer hold the distribution rights.

As usualy, we will continue our efforts to bring the game back where it belongs (as in: our catalog) as soon as possible.

The removal will occur at 6:00PM GMT today (that's in 1,5 hours).

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused you.
Damn, I'm only a few months too late. :( I hope the game gets back soon into the GoG catalog! ;)
Really disappointed to hear this, it was a great addition to the gog catalogue, definitely one of the best games available here.

Hopefully it will return sooner rather than later.
I've owned three copies of Severance: BOD. I got a budget version of it for £5 back in the halcyon days of physical media only. Somewhere it got lost, so I found an original boxed copy on eBay for £6 or something, and played that again and again. Then it got a digital release on GOG and I got that too, so I can always access it.

It is 100% frustrating that games are pulled from sale, but the fact it was available at all means it can easily come out again. System Shock 2 was nearly lost to rights battles, and it looks the same for NOLF and its sequel.

But I don't blame GOG. Sometimes contracts don't have the right information and parties operate in good faith. Sometimes a licensing audit throws up an expired IP or similar that you then need to yank. Consider the Outrun games - you can't get them because of the deal with Ferrari is expired. Sega was forced to either pay a fortune for a licence it won't use again simply to keep an old game available, or let the game go out of print.

Digital distribution has changed everything, Hopefully more publishers (and developers) will consider more flexible rights and royalties structures to keep games "in print".
Really sad this is not available on GOG any more. It's a great game to refer fans of the Dark/Demon's Souls series to when they want something else in that style. With the recent release of Bloodborne I wanted to refer to it again, only to find it's no longer for sale. :(
Is there any chance to get this game somewhere else?

On a used CD-ROM resale, if nowhere else. Although I believe this may have been one of the games that GOG had done some extra work to debug.

Wait, I thought Codemasters were back and everything? Can't they renew the license? I know a few people who are interested in buying this game.

Yeah bummer! A few months late. Always a shame when you browse the wish list and find one of your all time favorite games ... completed. Just to learn it had to be removed. I wish it would be refleced somehow. Maybe a store page saying no longer availible or some such.
