UniversalWolf: Maybe they're already negotiating a new deal to bring it back and they think they might be successful in a week or a month. In that case, there's no reason to get everyone in an uproar over nothing.

I don't know the answer, but I doubt it's a PR reason since GOG.com haven't done anything wrong.
Even if it's not GOGs fault, you know how people react when games are removed here, especially since the catalogue took that major hit not too long ago. So yeah, maybe that's why they didn't post it to the main forum. :/
The actual reason for us not posting this sort of things more openly is usually that we receive the news so late, that it gives us time to remove the game from sales "effective yesterday" :-( It's not fair to anyone, agreed, but sometimes things like this get overlooked by Publishers.

I'm really sorry about this, as GOG.com as well as personally, as this is one of my favorite classics around here and I had some plans for making a Twitch series out of it. That would've been fun!

Now, we can only hope we'll manage to get it back promptly. As far as I know this isn't some terrible legal mess as in some cases, so things aren't that bad.
Thanks for info G-Doc, I thought the short notice was most likely due to something like you described. I too hope you guys are able to bring the game back.
I bought a couple of extra gift keys before it was removed, so if anyone is interested in trading let me know.

When I get paid this month, I would like to trade one from you. I will contact again next week so you can tell me what do you want in exchange, sir.

Thank you SilensPoetae for a swift trade. Enjoy!

That was the last one I had.
I was really surprised to see this game not being available for purchase. I was linking it to someone who loved Dark Souls, and was going to tell him to buy this one.

I'm glad I at least got it and finished it some time ago, but I hope it returns some day. This game is glorious.

And full of secrets. And has a high replayability factor. The gore is magnificent. And this single game, introduced to pc gaming, certain graphical advancements that weren't in existence before. The "best game you 've never played". Poor advertizing, high requirements, and complex controls (in an era when mindless and oversimplified console gaming ruled), led to its silent demise.

Many people loved it when GoG brought it. But now, alas, it's over for good.
Now i undertand why this game is gone of my wishlist. Hope that come back in the future.
Probably a dumb question, but how does this drm free stuff actually works? What is to legally stop me from putting up the file somewhere for everybody to download. I honestly never looked into what DRM free actually means, and since I buy my stuff and whish to promote that I never thought of it, but now that this game isn't available for sale at the moment I don't see a reason not to wonder.

And when it comes to dumb questions, why do I suddenly have '.280' behind my username?

DRM is stuff in software to control what people can do with it. DRM-free is without that. They can't control what you do with it through the software itself. That doesn't mean you're free to pirate it, because piracy is still illegal (depends on your country's laws, I guess) even without any DRM to try to stop you and even if it's not being sold anywhere anymore. Potentially, they could still go after you for that if you pirate it, but realistically, nothing would likely happen. Depending on who you ask, there may or may not be legitimate reasons to download copyrighted software. So it's up to you. Out of respect for GOG and the developers, I would say you shouldn't pirate it, though I would understand if you did.

There was a bug or something with GOG accounts a few months back where some usernames had numbers affixed to them. You'll have to contact support and ask them to change it for you.

Yes I thought as much. Having grown up in an age of freeware and shareware it seems a bit dumb to me that piracy is even an issue, when the developer/distributor has stopped selling the game. Free reign for everyone I would say. Than again if they just need some to figure out who has the rights to sell it in the first place, that's a different matter I think. You would think though that in the meantime, while they figure that out, GOG can just keep on selling the game, make note of the number of sales during that period and pay the ones the hold the rights afterwards. It doesn't cost anybody anything, we have our games which makes us happy and makes us appreciate the developer/distributor in question even more. Win-win for everyone.

In an ideal world, yes, culture, art, information should be freely shared. But when there's money and lawyers and businesspeople involved, there's going to be rules and restrictions that prevents that.
