I love this game. I really do. but I can only get past the first few levels because I can't master the combos. I can play this game alright for as long as basic attacks are worth using. But after a while basic attacks only cut off 2% of an enemy's health at a time. While their's can still cut you to pieces in 3 or 4,

I can just about do the light combos that are colour coded yellow. But the heavy/red ones. Can't do them. And it means that after a while the enemies have so much health that even if I avoid all the hits it takes me five minutes to kill the golems. And don't get me started on bosses,
The problem with the heavy combos is that even if a can pull then off they need a 10 second windup. By the end of which the enemy is ether somewhere-else or has cut off all my limbs.
I feel like you should be able to do them quickly. But I can't figure out how.

I would love to finish this game someday. But I don't seen to have the knowhow. Can anyone talk me through this so I can play the later levels?

This is strange. You should be able to go trough most levels with normal attacks. There is a chance that you've missed out on collecting weapons.
Also it is preferred that you use combos with a lower tier weapon so you don't loose as much stamina.
Different enemies are resistant to different types of attacks.
Skeletons are weak to bashing.
Meaty enemies are weak to slashing.

Also there are specific attacks that make it easier to behead an enemy or to cut of a limb that speeds up the death.

I would suggest that you start the game from the beginning and do your best not to miss out on weapons.

P.S. there are a few enemies that are really beefy and special. It is recommended that you use a power potion when you fight them.

That might explain some of it. I genrally just throw out old weapons for new ones the have a higher damage output. So While I don't think I miss weapons much maybe I've been using them wrong?

You have to use weapons suitable for your character. Press F1 to see a helpful list of which weapons are for you and how to make the combos. Usually it's Left mouse + direction keys

I know that's how it's meant to be done but when I try to do that my character just flails around uselessly for a few seconds and then if i'm lucky does a move with a red arua at the end, by which time half my health is missing. I'm sure they're meant to be done as quickly as normal moves. Every now and then I pull one off totally by accident and it's devastating to the enemy. I feel like that meant to be like doing a fatality in Mortal Kombat? But I am not good at fighting games It's just when I try to do a fatality in MK it looks like this https://youtu.be/-oZtlXX8C7Q?t=52

I love this game. It's a shame I never get past level 6. That's as far as I can get with regular attacks.
The red combos are slower indeed and some are even more slower than usual. The trick is to recognize when the enemy is swinging, step a bit to the left or righ, hit them once with a normal strike, which staggers them a bit, then you have time to execute the red combo. Or, learn to time your combos exactly right so when the most devastating part of it is played, the enemy is already in the range. You've never played beyond Gorge of Orlok? Or Fortres of Nemrut? Wow, you are misssing half the game. When you get new weapon, make sure you are the right level to use the red combo, then practise it few times. More powerful weapon doesn't always mean better. Some lower tier weapons have easier red combos than higher tier weapons. The knight can play almost the entire game with the elf sword + a mace for the skeletors. The amazon can do great with the axe spear alone, the barbarian is great with the long sword, and I can't remember which one was best for the dwarf.

Thanks dude :) I'll give this a try on my next play-through, which I'll do soon, and see how it works for me.
